Tucked away in a neighborhood area, this unassuming Chinese dai chow type restaurant may not catch your eyes at first glance, but once you step inside, you'll be greeted with an air-conditioned ambiance buzzing with diners eagerly savoring the delights on offer.</p><p>Among the array of tempting options, we decided to start with their signature Sang Har noodles - a tantalizing concoction of freshwater prawns fried to perfection atop a bed of flavorful deep-fried noodles. The succulent prawns paired wonderfully with the crispy noodles and egg sauce, leaving us craving for more.</p><p>Another standout dish that captured our taste buds was the steamed Lala clams generously garnished with chopped garlic. The aromatic garlic infused every bite with a burst of flavor, making it an instant favorite of mine.</p><p>For the adventurous palate of the hubby, we ventured into trying the stir-fried pig intestines, which turned out to be a surprising delight. Cooked to tender perfection and seasoned with a harmonious blend of deep-fried dried shrimp and garlic, it was a dish that left a lasting impression.</p><p>Of course, no Chinese meal is complete without a vegetable dish, and Fatt Hei Len did not disappoint. The sautéed sweet potato leaves with garlic were executed flawlessly, boasting the coveted 'wok hei' taste that elevates simple greens to gourmet status.</p><p>The homemade tofu and fried yam basket with ku lo yoke provided a satisfying crunch, while the braised chicken with yellow wine in clay pot was a comforting indulgence (my all-time favorite), with kampung chicken steeped in fragrant yellow wine sauce, reminiscing of a confinement dish.</p><p>This time we didn’t get to try the famed "Pau Heong” Rice with River Prawns, a dish that came highly recommended. Priced at RM156 for a double portion, I’ve read rave reviews on this unique dish, only after we visited Fatt Hei Len. The giant freshwater prawns are nestled amidst explosively fried rice, with chunks of water chestnut, carrots, and peas. Sounds interesting and unique!</p><p>As we savored each dish, we were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable bill that awaited us at the end of our meal - a mere RM276.65. Considering the quality and quantity of the food we enjoyed with big freshwater prawns, it was indeed a steal.</p><p>From their unique and mouthwatering dishes to their warm hospitality, this is a place we'll undoubtedly revisit. </p><p><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; Today, I had the pleasure of experiencing one such delightful surprise from my hubby, and let me tell you, it was a moment of pure culinary bliss.</p><p>As I went about my day, my phone rang, and to my delight, it was my husband on the line, asking me to go to the lobby for a surprise. Now, I must admit, I'm a sucker for surprises, particularly when they involve food. True to form, my hubby never fails to deliver when it comes to satisfying our taste buds with delectable snacks and goodies.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEizWdTogLnXJzUekmV2eJgh6dbcEP84yEX-50Wi6zxSbvd5VdbIcHYm5zL4i1B1EEpBymSNkenlcBdpSSpnxReBZq38nu4ahXabswZxbJlaApzTW8HpOMW3h9V5aOEvYFT8StdEGCnG8ZtkEw7_Z-LR69QDAfEi9MW3FerCP3rhRIl86oe-DtLgRSVtJIQs" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEizWdTogLnXJzUekmV2eJgh6dbcEP84yEX-50Wi6zxSbvd5VdbIcHYm5zL4i1B1EEpBymSNkenlcBdpSSpnxReBZq38nu4ahXabswZxbJlaApzTW8HpOMW3h9V5aOEvYFT8StdEGCnG8ZtkEw7_Z-LR69QDAfEi9MW3FerCP3rhRIl86oe-DtLgRSVtJIQs=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><p>This time, it was a box filled with an assortment of handmade European pastries, along with a tantalizing salmon quiche and freshly baked sourdough bread from Croisserie Artisan Bakery. I had already done a lot of reading on bringing a cat in tow for a road trip. I read up since the lockdowns were lifted and I knew that one day I would have to bring Haru back to Ipoh with me. </p><p>In fact, during one of our trips back to Ipoh last year, I bought chain link fencing and fixed it to the door of Haru's room, which is a room outside our bedroom. The area where Haru will be roaming was already cat-proofed. </p><p>For the trip, I only had to bring Haru's spare litter box, clean litter + a bit of existing litter from her KL litter box (for the familiarity of scent), her food, chemical-free wet wipes, disposable waterproof papers, disposable gloves, and her carrier. </p><p>But I forgot to bring her litter spade to scoop her pee & poop!!!! Because it was an eleventh-hour decision to bring Haru back due to a failed boarding, I wasn't 100% thorough with her checklist of things. So I had to improvise with a tiny disposable takeaway spoon and disposable gloves each time I cleaned her litter! That was disgusting ok, having to scoop her big chunk of pee with my hands. As we were out of the house most of the time for reunion lunches and dinners, I didn't have the time to buy a litter spade or search for my dad's gardening spade for it. </p><p>Now I know I will not forget to bring the litter spade with me the next time we travel with Haru again!</p><p>To ensure that Haru would not throw up in the car, I fed Haru at least two hours before our journeys, and I woke up at 4.45 a.m. to feed my baby as our journey started at 7-ish in the morning. I also had to coax her to pee and poo before the car ride but this was unsuccessful. When Haru was in Ipoh, she was having anxiety as she was in a new environment with so many new faces, especially my two squealing and overzealous twin nephew and niece who badly wanted to touch Haru. She was hiding under the bed most of the time. Whenever Haru is anxious, she wouldn't pee or poo, just like how she was when she was at the cat boarder's house for two days. She didn't pee or poo nor eat or drink for two whole frigging days. This crushed my heart as I was observing Haru almost 24/7 from the CCTV on my phone.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjaoyqlKjpdnjDbPaLCFlcD-uXigKM1bkBvG0XXvH6ZL-Kza0XoQEupeYMV8liqchtZ7zWJqBrG5_8oBHfywrmNJ_c0RKNLMuz5S3qQG7WaR2Rp5SKdTJ65SDdaXgPs43ZJvtrJZkrxdlJpyJfWZP84KqhEzb97Uow5tsZPgUBubhN0UhSp6trcKpVjfbRg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjaoyqlKjpdnjDbPaLCFlcD-uXigKM1bkBvG0XXvH6ZL-Kza0XoQEupeYMV8liqchtZ7zWJqBrG5_8oBHfywrmNJ_c0RKNLMuz5S3qQG7WaR2Rp5SKdTJ65SDdaXgPs43ZJvtrJZkrxdlJpyJfWZP84KqhEzb97Uow5tsZPgUBubhN0UhSp6trcKpVjfbRg=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cute Haru sticking her head out of her carrier in our car. Our celebration this year held special significance as we gathered in Ipoh on the first day of Chinese New Year on 10 February 2024, to commemorate her birthday in advance. This is the second time that Sherilyn celebrated her birthday in Ipoh with my parents and brothers. If Chinese New Year happens to fall in February, we would be able to have a double celebration in Ipoh when my brothers return to Ipoh.</p><p>Sherilyn's birth on the 8th day of Chinese New Year in 2005 remains etched in my memory with vivid clarity. On the eve of Pai Ti Kung day, Sherilyn made her grand entrance into the world at noon, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. Her spirited nature became apparent from the start, as evidenced by her feisty behavior even during those early breastfeeding sessions. </p><p>I recall the thunderous sounds of fireworks at midnight on 17 February 2005 as the Hokkiens celebrated and prayed to the Jade Emperor. That midnight, the infant, not even a day old yet, bit off a small part of my teat as she was trying to suckle milk. I was shocked to see blood in her mouth and then the double shock when I realized that it was a tiny part of my teat in her tiny mouth 😬. I will never forget the pain I endured that night and the subsequent times that she latched onto a badly wounded teat. 😂 I am so proud of myself that I survived those days.</p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh96MO6A1l-1MidGWXk8k3-93p8FxrL09AUdh0N0JTeMAPpW-WCZU7PfDb-nwkwCv7JXkWc27CW-4Q80ZDubzQlmavbdebBoZjpsrikpv5DJYsWuBWdn5qfW3A9o0UV2z3spwvk6kmIfgdsSCa4KN33zz8FMfzLDnYbxZw5nZOLbhgQ4H0H-XzFkgzvZOBp" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="659" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh96MO6A1l-1MidGWXk8k3-93p8FxrL09AUdh0N0JTeMAPpW-WCZU7PfDb-nwkwCv7JXkWc27CW-4Q80ZDubzQlmavbdebBoZjpsrikpv5DJYsWuBWdn5qfW3A9o0UV2z3spwvk6kmIfgdsSCa4KN33zz8FMfzLDnYbxZw5nZOLbhgQ4H0H-XzFkgzvZOBp=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A yummy cake from JJ Swiss Roll.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p></p><p>Fast forward to Sherilyn's 19th birthday celebration, and we found ourselves indulging in not one but two joyous occasions. Exactly four years later, we were back again to have a wonderful reunion with my family. </p><p>This CNY is a little extra memorable as we brought Haru along with us. After a <a href="https://www.healthfreakmommy.com/2024/02/failed-boarding-for-haru/">failed boarding for Haru</a>, we had no choice but to lug her along with us to Ipoh. And I have no regrets about it. I managed to desensitize Haru's phobia of car rides and I'm still working on desensitizing her fear of meeting new people. With Haru in Ipoh with us, I needn't have to worry about her having a harrowing time (hunger strike with no peeing and pooping) at the catsitter's place.</p><p>Haru was kept inside my bedroom most of the time. I placed her carrier and bed on the floor but this fella decided to sleep in between us on our bed at night despite me kicking her out of our bed umpteen times till I gave up out of exhaustion.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWXyg7deEwNr4LusP5eZOcSRWBgOplWSrwSiUt2syCWl_VB_g4qsi2wr9I1ti0xW8WFyL4LtJUV_7m3W5mNLmBsJUxl-cDeavRnW6n-BOif7rpnN6FniOadHLZUJ2Q5TMzNFU2EjVTWU-_Xmkc4jFnhIxGRxBgZRpX8aiKrOsw2bx0r6rC9C26I_irBsng" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWXyg7deEwNr4LusP5eZOcSRWBgOplWSrwSiUt2syCWl_VB_g4qsi2wr9I1ti0xW8WFyL4LtJUV_7m3W5mNLmBsJUxl-cDeavRnW6n-BOif7rpnN6FniOadHLZUJ2Q5TMzNFU2EjVTWU-_Xmkc4jFnhIxGRxBgZRpX8aiKrOsw2bx0r6rC9C26I_irBsng=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Chor 2 brunch of Dim Sum at Kok Thai Restaurant with my family before we headed to the Yaps' family house for 'Hoi Neen Fan'</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg1o5m7AJDVYbha4bJLoChxN5F2HlL7y-YyLompT4EqxI5eKhAVrKAx1YmyQ6qBZgMypXUneUw4Y8cj8DdcinmvPKQ-uaOHT3CCSRQjgm5mdx2X-MvQG2Bguju7E_09FVCI5E0l_7uB-r8wCJz4xKc8PltA-y_XnqWbhxQxVUasOurXsnyN_X-rPzqdjy61" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="878" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg1o5m7AJDVYbha4bJLoChxN5F2HlL7y-YyLompT4EqxI5eKhAVrKAx1YmyQ6qBZgMypXUneUw4Y8cj8DdcinmvPKQ-uaOHT3CCSRQjgm5mdx2X-MvQG2Bguju7E_09FVCI5E0l_7uB-r8wCJz4xKc8PltA-y_XnqWbhxQxVUasOurXsnyN_X-rPzqdjy61=w640-h640" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ang Pow gifting session.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgEWCBWFgMD4yfZTPYQEiPUAm9_cYQ72TMypQ9hzaQFIdnCb5XHJSS2viaKI_pJTPlCbsSgz6CFFhz7itZhpD-6Mg9abADV6Ot-TRNJyD9YPNvdRQuWLaWDJbIMN83Lc9CqjO2O5fhhUqoo-9kvo5LXjbK8i0Ha9nIzRxaEGPeGCi___KBQ7WT_LVqXqC8g" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="659" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgEWCBWFgMD4yfZTPYQEiPUAm9_cYQ72TMypQ9hzaQFIdnCb5XHJSS2viaKI_pJTPlCbsSgz6CFFhz7itZhpD-6Mg9abADV6Ot-TRNJyD9YPNvdRQuWLaWDJbIMN83Lc9CqjO2O5fhhUqoo-9kvo5LXjbK8i0Ha9nIzRxaEGPeGCi___KBQ7WT_LVqXqC8g=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">We had an early birthday celebration for Sherilyn and bought a cake from JJ Swiss Roll. Initially, I thought that Maria didn't screw the fan blade securely after cleaning it. So I tightened it but after a few minutes, I got a shock when a piece of the middle section of the fan blade dropped out. Seconds later, another broken piece flew out! </p><p>A tiny bit of my heart dropped too. Any breakage of appliances or items in the house means money is about to fly out! We just bought a new washing machine less than two months ago. The ceiling fan in my bedroom needs to be replaced too.</p><p>I quickly Whatsapped the customer service staff of Tan Boon Meng electrical shop to ask if they carry the replacement fan blade but I was too early and the person in charge wasn't in the office yet. </p><p>Later, I told hubby and he asked me to look for a replacement fan blade at Mr DIY. Fortunately, there's stock for the 16-inch fan blade and after paying for it, I prayed that it would fit my Panasonic fan.</p><p>Back home, I quickly asked Maria to try putting the new fan blade in. Maria spent 5 minutes trying to screw the blade in but it just wouldn't move any deeper. Just as I was about to bring the fan blade back to Mr DIY to get a refund, I tried one last time and pushed the blade deeper, and voila, it clicked! 💪🎉</p><p>The replacement fan blade from Mr DIY only costs about RM7 (can't really recall the actual price). The quality of the Mr DIY fan blade feels almost the same as the Panasonic one. It's made of plastic, which feels kind of fragile - the type that once you dropped it, it would crack. So I advised Maria to be very careful when cleaning the fan, i.e. do not drop it on the floor or screw it too tightly, or it would break again.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj0Ll2t2KkPNRJs0sDAXw6JtDmhj5zPY_Lm1zCRUlqyQHxluYjrb1oJOe74bhXqmwB23eAcLYwnN0B-wsK_qS1gdfKpmy97mPkNqZWDoxDuDUcRVLdx4UajG0aUKQ93sm2P1-ay12ByLDaba90-kFlyBd5TRLDqzjDAVxzJ0F8ZRpfbk3bF2vUO14JFiSgU" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj0Ll2t2KkPNRJs0sDAXw6JtDmhj5zPY_Lm1zCRUlqyQHxluYjrb1oJOe74bhXqmwB23eAcLYwnN0B-wsK_qS1gdfKpmy97mPkNqZWDoxDuDUcRVLdx4UajG0aUKQ93sm2P1-ay12ByLDaba90-kFlyBd5TRLDqzjDAVxzJ0F8ZRpfbk3bF2vUO14JFiSgU=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Broken fan blade.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhDCZjx17hXZNliCKM4KDOUXRFEkvqPwLOskArCAucXq5v7tXZ55v4ZoA3vYUewIuSwoVyGm8YgvghEtSoEjQEzY0RbHPAMJAgXFRYNVDhJPrP2W_RNyBkRZ-s23vxJ4SlDq2jH_TuvMUh5Gtz_pe8EWfkhEjYw_q7ykUQlNRd3qOqkbDe17e_bomeDSwwn" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhDCZjx17hXZNliCKM4KDOUXRFEkvqPwLOskArCAucXq5v7tXZ55v4ZoA3vYUewIuSwoVyGm8YgvghEtSoEjQEzY0RbHPAMJAgXFRYNVDhJPrP2W_RNyBkRZ-s23vxJ4SlDq2jH_TuvMUh5Gtz_pe8EWfkhEjYw_q7ykUQlNRd3qOqkbDe17e_bomeDSwwn=w640-h640" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">16" replacement fan blade from Mr DIY that costs less than RM10. However, discovering a blackened interior with black veins in your avocado can be a cause for concern. </p><p>Avocados are pretty costly and discovering an imperfect interior with brown spots, black spots, and dark stringy flesh can be very disheartening. Do you throw the avocado away? Or do you cut off the dark parts and eat the green parts? If you’re an avocado lover, just like my family and me, you’ve most likely been faced with this predicament umpteen times.</p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjJXyeLVoNHocVFZARUcxzgAYlA10s7LcHoJU6e4IDwSzd6Npcj3aarE_q3Gy49y4wUdTrGb-2rpdXa9rDy2V5Aojz8SEPIlvViYIZRanm1fSyEt2qud9A--0fZeh02BZFasvMBwbZCYWZfdGePxQEz0LCCt9z8yVxjlJtHaTd6TCKCc1IuDVZjbqtX5EJ7" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="194" data-original-width="260" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjJXyeLVoNHocVFZARUcxzgAYlA10s7LcHoJU6e4IDwSzd6Npcj3aarE_q3Gy49y4wUdTrGb-2rpdXa9rDy2V5Aojz8SEPIlvViYIZRanm1fSyEt2qud9A--0fZeh02BZFasvMBwbZCYWZfdGePxQEz0LCCt9z8yVxjlJtHaTd6TCKCc1IuDVZjbqtX5EJ7=w640-h478" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Avocado with brown flesh</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p><b>Natural Ripening Process </b></p><p>Avocados undergo a natural ripening process, during which the flesh transforms from firm and green to soft and creamy. As part of this process, the color of the avocado can change to a darker shade, sometimes appearing almost black. This change is typically harmless and often indicates that the fruit is perfectly ripe.</p><p><br /></p><p><b>Enzymatic Browning</b></p><p>The blackening of avocado flesh can also result from enzymatic browning, a natural chemical reaction that occurs when the fruit is exposed to oxygen. While this process may alter the color, the avocado remains safe to eat. You can simply scrape off the discolored portion to reveal the unaffected, flavorful flesh beneath.</p><p><br /></p><p><b>Veining in Avocado </b></p><p>Veining or string-like structures in an avocado may be a result of its variety or the presence of undigested fibers. This occurrence is not uncommon and is generally considered safe for consumption. The veins themselves are harmless and can be consumed without adverse effects.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhGs7g-N8f6OsLuTQTn_qPcZ5EP8uJYohxvdx57Q5pX-b2YbSqO-oKHAhoXlYF5LgZVBnWgcKtmZ8x0RywP2xxCAYweM6sG7mpEhkG8JkXpYpPcJ4_EmMNVIY7Ru7J1C0E6FFnRq9TPm1fYnZ6Spf31yZchChmiUxZp2fsUTxEcdmWgm-PnA3WNBTcIZWkS" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhGs7g-N8f6OsLuTQTn_qPcZ5EP8uJYohxvdx57Q5pX-b2YbSqO-oKHAhoXlYF5LgZVBnWgcKtmZ8x0RywP2xxCAYweM6sG7mpEhkG8JkXpYpPcJ4_EmMNVIY7Ru7J1C0E6FFnRq9TPm1fYnZ6Spf31yZchChmiUxZp2fsUTxEcdmWgm-PnA3WNBTcIZWkS=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dark streaks within avocado flesh</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p><b>Signs of Spoilage </b></p><p>While discoloration alone does not necessarily indicate spoilage, it's crucial to be aware of additional signs. If the avocado emits a foul odor, has a sour taste, or displays mold growth, it may be an indication of spoilage and should be discarded.</p><p>Don’t try to salvage any part of a sour-smelling or moldy avocado, as it has the potential to make you sick.</p><p><br /></p><p><b>Health Considerations </b></p><p>Consuming black avocado flesh, even with veins, is generally safe for most individuals. However, those with latex allergies or sensitivity to certain proteins found in avocados may experience allergic reactions. If you have known allergies or concerns, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before consuming avocados.</p><p><br /></p><p><b>Conclusion</b></p><p>In conclusion, the blackening of avocado flesh, accompanied by veins, is often a result of the natural ripening process and enzymatic browning. These occurrences are generally harmless and do not pose health risks. By understanding the reasons behind these color changes, you can confidently enjoy avocados while ensuring their quality and safety. Remember to rely on additional signs of spoilage, such as odor or mold, to determine the overall condition of the fruit. </p><p>Through smell, taste, touch, and visual inspection, you can determine whether an avocado has spoiled, and whether to eat or discard it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Health Freak Mommyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16667292699809775619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4047251100310275845.post-50264389358930950202024-01-24T17:43:00.003+08:002024-01-24T17:43:57.749+08:00My Middle Child’s Culinary Ventures, Academic Triumphs, and the Road Ahead<p><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 12pt;">Life for Sherilyn, my second daughter, has undergone a

The trio, consisting of Alycia, hubby, and myself, indulged in a sumptuous breakfast featuring chicken sando, chicken katsu rice bowl, scrambled eggs, and smoked salmon toast. The breakfast tableau was completed with delectable desserts—cream brulee burnt cheesecake and taro butter cake—accompanied by the comforting aroma of coffee.</p><p>Post-breakfast, hubby and I departed ways. He went to his office while I brought Alycia to get tau foo fa with sweet potato balls at a new tau foo fa dessert stall. When we reached home, a shadow loomed over our cheerful morning. Hubby told me that he couldn’t find his wallet. Panic set in, prompting a frantic search throughout the house, condo car park, and even reaching out to the café staff and our ever-helpful guards at our condo.</p><p>In a bid to solve the wallet mystery, our guard went above and beyond, delving into the condo's CCTV recordings. Tension heightened as we eagerly awaited news from the electronic detective work. The clock ticked, and each passing moment intensified our worry. Every time she heard me calling her, she would run towards me, and follow me around, as if begging me to bring her home. She always followed me back to my car and would try to jump inside. My heart hurts to see such an adorable and friendly cat living on the streets, begging for love and pets. <p></p>Health Freak Mommyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16667292699809775619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4047251100310275845.post-15726191547572073992024-01-08T18:19:00.001+08:002024-01-08T18:19:47.143+08:002 January 2024 - Bak Kut Teh Brunch<p>My impromptu brunch on the second day of 2024 was Bak Kut Teh - with only hubby and Alycia. </p><p>Hubby had a sudden craving for Bak Kut Teh, so we went to this unassuming shop located next to our neighborhood, just 5 minutes drive away. </p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhjMmJtOKTyouafJlqSLlgOnwCHZS4BNxAh2D3O87bXF9Pq72gC8EHWRekIi3XKnLquWF346iU_O1R_dBNcs5M6K05robn9eZbcHxCiauoOAhLRlBt77UfkKS3Z6SjLOnZMldHf-O8LX9O51Q5QqXjdiXT9T82Mts83H_tMz-I_ew_l-fSvTshiIKkO5Yto" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="1170" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhjMmJtOKTyouafJlqSLlgOnwCHZS4BNxAh2D3O87bXF9Pq72gC8EHWRekIi3XKnLquWF346iU_O1R_dBNcs5M6K05robn9eZbcHxCiauoOAhLRlBt77UfkKS3Z6SjLOnZMldHf-O8LX9O51Q5QqXjdiXT9T82Mts83H_tMz-I_ew_l-fSvTshiIKkO5Yto=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />Hubby likes the Bak Kut Teh. Besides the skincare products, I also bought cat food, toiletries, and cleaning products on Christmas Day when there were online sales on both the Lazada and Shopee platforms.</p><p>Online shopping has become my go-to method for procuring skincare products and for good reasons. The convenience, extensive options, and, most importantly, the potential for substantial savings make it an unbeatable choice. Last week's purchase is yet another testament to the financial benefits of online shopping!</p><p>Before diving into the savings, the total cost of the two Eucerin ProACNE Solution products was RM193.50 (BEFORE DISCOUNT). After discounts, I only had to pay RM150.74.</p><p>Here's where the magic happened:</p><p><i>Free Shipping: </i>there was free shipping for my purchase. The parcel was delivered to me in just four days. If not for Christmas, the parcel would have reached me even earlier.</p><p><i>Store Voucher: </i>A RM23.22 voucher from the Eucerin Official Store on Shopee further slashed the overall expense.</p><p><i>Cashback</i>: Shopee, the platform where I made the purchase, rewarded me with 2044 coins, equivalent to a RM20.44 cashback, adding to the accumulated savings.</p><p>In total, I saved a substantial RM43.66 on these two skincare products, and this is not a one-time occurrence. Regular online shopping sales, discounts, and cashback offers continue to contribute to significant savings throughout the year.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEix6s9LnlTp5OPztkfXIpAkqmTjbhYDRkFq-SpqBa7UPeRbUQvBD2ahTvnAt2cbuS-dIph-rXMDjuPFT09kbES5ZInxqWtgeaN0HcBqdFmGFoqDg_Vkoi4CfND5VNcQWlM0f9zxstKoQUXUQUIkOXOpt4yXntGQ4kRc3PKMDITHNI0NJaaZsNrzKn1qjhmP" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="659" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEix6s9LnlTp5OPztkfXIpAkqmTjbhYDRkFq-SpqBa7UPeRbUQvBD2ahTvnAt2cbuS-dIph-rXMDjuPFT09kbES5ZInxqWtgeaN0HcBqdFmGFoqDg_Vkoi4CfND5VNcQWlM0f9zxstKoQUXUQUIkOXOpt4yXntGQ4kRc3PKMDITHNI0NJaaZsNrzKn1qjhmP=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><p>Had I opted for the traditional route of purchasing these skincare products from a physical pharmacy, the cost would easily surpass RM200. The substantial price difference underscores the economic advantage of embracing the online shopping trend for me. And this is the reason why I hardly go to the malls now. Instead, I now spend at least an hour every day browsing Shopee and Lazada and adding items to my shopping carts. Best destresser ever 😁</p><div><br /></div>Health Freak Mommyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16667292699809775619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4047251100310275845.post-25985404924694560552023-12-20T17:11:00.000+08:002023-12-20T17:11:00.962+08:00 A Slice of Italy in Malaysia: Savoring the Delight of iMarigliano Panettone<p>Every year, the arrival of panettone signals the beginning of the festive season in our household. A gift from my sister-in-law in England, this beloved Italian delicacy has become a hallmark of our Christmas celebrations. This year, the panettone's origin traveled even further, gracing our home directly from Italy. The two loaves of panettone including shipping from Italy cost RM400.</p><p>The star of this festive package? Two luscious loaves of iMarigliano Panettone, one in the classic flavor and the other generously adorned with the richness of chocolate. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjvtbRVTFtXPoTCTwcH9n_qp-qV1_aLklzejmZmekZcj17mEqFhbQKfw-VqQzwxKBNwJ4PP46qEOO7x3cluvUUX8D5vVFcUa3ipTb0LcftUvJSCAUdYjSXCs7Y79n6HyQb42Sx3hjZqSs97P_I4itx59p3WETNmDY4mbS2jH0medlvZlZvzSN1d2tfgnw4N" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="627" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjvtbRVTFtXPoTCTwcH9n_qp-qV1_aLklzejmZmekZcj17mEqFhbQKfw-VqQzwxKBNwJ4PP46qEOO7x3cluvUUX8D5vVFcUa3ipTb0LcftUvJSCAUdYjSXCs7Y79n6HyQb42Sx3hjZqSs97P_I4itx59p3WETNmDY4mbS2jH0medlvZlZvzSN1d2tfgnw4N=w451-h640" width="451" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><p>As we unwrapped the carefully packaged panettone, the aroma of butter, eggs, dried fruits, and a hint of alcohol wafted through the air. What awaited us inside were two masterpieces from iMarigliano—one in the classic flavor and the other a decadent chocolate variant. The moment we sliced into these golden-brown beauties, we knew we were in for a treat.</p><p>The texture of iMarigliano Panettone is nothing short of extraordinary. Unbelievably soft and fluffy, each mouthful is a delicate dance of chewy softness and rich, robust flavors. Every bite is a testament to the craftsmanship behind this Italian creation, showcasing the perfect balance of ingredients that create an unrivaled taste experience.</p><p>Traditionally, the panettone sent by my sister-in-law lasted for a month or two, becoming a delightful post-Christmas treat. However, the iMarigliano Panettone proved too irresistible. In just two weeks, both loaves disappeared, without a chance to make their way into the fridge. </p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh14yagoKgyXwhlkOu4l85Hk168gAXwmAJ-X5X_o_nqFZBuW2m1JUcNaJnkBu-vvuYxgNz05FbI2MfBoauT3uklM-jlFCs2wXfBH4BvVVuWpD3UwWV8GWxc0ipXDwsUnCseKDL5hBuiqkOIBm9i087nGiAzfvY84pygAzHnOgUy4hUcLU6oEyq_iufWv5lv" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="1190" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh14yagoKgyXwhlkOu4l85Hk168gAXwmAJ-X5X_o_nqFZBuW2m1JUcNaJnkBu-vvuYxgNz05FbI2MfBoauT3uklM-jlFCs2wXfBH4BvVVuWpD3UwWV8GWxc0ipXDwsUnCseKDL5hBuiqkOIBm9i087nGiAzfvY84pygAzHnOgUy4hUcLU6oEyq_iufWv5lv=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></div><br />As we bid farewell to this year's panettone, the anticipation for the next Christmas has already begun. The memory of iMarigliano Panettone's exquisite taste lingers, creating a yearning for the festive season to come around once more. <p></p><div><br /></div>Health Freak Mommyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16667292699809775619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4047251100310275845.post-46681419525985274782023-12-15T22:45:00.003+08:002023-12-15T22:50:08.982+08:00Our Meals<p>We've not really cooked for more than two weeks. Even though the mil came back from New Zealand two weeks ago, she's been under the weather. With so many celebrations, weddings, and SIL from Hong Kong still in KL, we have no chance to cook. I had to give away all the organic veggies that I bought to Maria before they turned bad. We also have food from hubby's kitchen almost daily. I'm not complaining, in fact, I'm SO glad that we don't have to cook coz cooking is just not my jam. I don't mind cooking but the cleaning up just turns me off 😝. I rather spend the one hour jogging outside vs. cooking and washing and getting all stressed up over it. </p><p>These are some of the excess food from hubby's kitchen for us recently:</p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi07FOY4lIgW0OPNr-Y8VFn1PvDd5fT7Y-blVRm6QWAWOKK1eAir6HI5GQqfrRADuOMgP-OWI-YTvA7lpjYde1av1qkdLeIJBvagdpi9W-Rln7wygsbOgvXHo4W_Es_GMCmXydTZdejrz6rmvwMW6HnjAFG_qIys13s9x3b-1tvFqVyDnUmp8AuX570AUAb" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="1190" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi07FOY4lIgW0OPNr-Y8VFn1PvDd5fT7Y-blVRm6QWAWOKK1eAir6HI5GQqfrRADuOMgP-OWI-YTvA7lpjYde1av1qkdLeIJBvagdpi9W-Rln7wygsbOgvXHo4W_Es_GMCmXydTZdejrz6rmvwMW6HnjAFG_qIys13s9x3b-1tvFqVyDnUmp8AuX570AUAb=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sushi platter.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiTiE4L4-rogZhWnPsDzas_CaUnNTFuaSntnBzEJusdm2s0SNhr0kpDA3aTsWlbMEgPEPxS-dOUs8iqJilImTzqKmHsbg76B3Uqi1Ae81d7CihkL5hFU7MEveRr3iTTNWj2EUWj0Lzlq9_aueUGv2Mbb6zpyQEjWMowvrd12fCvUiEz4_33waEv62w_r0yN" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiTiE4L4-rogZhWnPsDzas_CaUnNTFuaSntnBzEJusdm2s0SNhr0kpDA3aTsWlbMEgPEPxS-dOUs8iqJilImTzqKmHsbg76B3Uqi1Ae81d7CihkL5hFU7MEveRr3iTTNWj2EUWj0Lzlq9_aueUGv2Mbb6zpyQEjWMowvrd12fCvUiEz4_33waEv62w_r0yN=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Chicken bolognese with colorful spiral pasta.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgxv9nu5PXJDNjdqIVozlH5Ea0oM6XWGlruM7GofdeG9vyFsI6lhNK27JFvb9YaFqIeG5KrLSDPCaHDaeCaGYTS9kNw-e0KnQnpg0ssOLT5pAt8nSU-2IySCPTKMk6LsgV4rEPCDNNS4N_WdkL6SgRVvAJGOSMh45kwAS4neGbXZVbokqzh9x3rn-0EGb_L" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgxv9nu5PXJDNjdqIVozlH5Ea0oM6XWGlruM7GofdeG9vyFsI6lhNK27JFvb9YaFqIeG5KrLSDPCaHDaeCaGYTS9kNw-e0KnQnpg0ssOLT5pAt8nSU-2IySCPTKMk6LsgV4rEPCDNNS4N_WdkL6SgRVvAJGOSMh45kwAS4neGbXZVbokqzh9x3rn-0EGb_L=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Chicken and beef satay.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiy6qFilhgV6PG8o9pI7OwQGe781xHgmZpkXrspYQ0LT7QQswa6JPB3mu8kZoz7PGlnloh8kfnjDWscbBciOZVtdFSVan4fkhr_AZ2bAV_77U0MvVpFnV-ovTo1P1_90UseBhr6ieiFAzomOReky2YNuoBpDqvyxat_9iuO9uJPdVkZh1ObKDbq4A3iDsSw" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiy6qFilhgV6PG8o9pI7OwQGe781xHgmZpkXrspYQ0LT7QQswa6JPB3mu8kZoz7PGlnloh8kfnjDWscbBciOZVtdFSVan4fkhr_AZ2bAV_77U0MvVpFnV-ovTo1P1_90UseBhr6ieiFAzomOReky2YNuoBpDqvyxat_9iuO9uJPdVkZh1ObKDbq4A3iDsSw=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Carrot cake with frosting. While national schools continue classes until Friday, Cass attends a Chinese independent high school, concluding her Junior Three journey a bit earlier. The day unfolded with a unique celebration as Cass and her classmates embraced the end of the school year, creating memories that will linger long after the final bell.</p><p>With an early dismissal, Cass and her classmates seized the opportunity to celebrate the completion of Junior Three by heading to the shopping malls. It's a day of camaraderie and joy, especially for those whose paths will diverge next year as they move on to different classes. Today is a day to revel in the bonds formed during this academic chapter.</p><p>Cass has not only completed the school year but has also excelled academically. Her final exam results secured her a position among the top three in her class, a testament to her dedication and hard work. The school acknowledged her achievements by awarding her a RM100 book voucher, recognizing her commitment to academic excellence.</p><p>Next year holds new possibilities for Cass, and despite being allocated to the Science stream, she has decided to opt for the Commerce stream. This decision means delving into the realms of Economics, Commerce, and Accounting. Cass' decision to join the Commerce stream echoes the academic path of her elder sister Alycia. </p><p>With a well-deserved two-and-a-half week of holiday stretching ahead, I know Cass has plans to spend a significant portion of her time at the skating rink, honing her skills in figure skating. She would love to spend the entire day on ice if her dad and I would allow her.</p><p>As Cass bids farewell to Junior Three, it's astounding to realize that she will be entering Senior One (Form 4) next year. Time, as they say, flies swiftly. The journey through high school is a tapestry of growth, learning, making new friends, and new beginnings. Today's celebration marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, filled with anticipation for the adventures Senior One will undoubtedly bring.</p><p><br /></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjnLpDWcaxdtCutsjMObOfsHERhZPlhbVz4323YFwayfmJQeErTw4tP_7yTf4Kb-JtDDbB676GDgIhXSlH3oEEyxt9of1I-oda5gTm6sKyeCylWAprMV3avjBOZbWFpSQMppksp75XrfIaGFfsh97_WHEFjIlwu_SS_7HtJ_rIjQ5A-ISPnL9YkLYk__9Mx" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjnLpDWcaxdtCutsjMObOfsHERhZPlhbVz4323YFwayfmJQeErTw4tP_7yTf4Kb-JtDDbB676GDgIhXSlH3oEEyxt9of1I-oda5gTm6sKyeCylWAprMV3avjBOZbWFpSQMppksp75XrfIaGFfsh97_WHEFjIlwu_SS_7HtJ_rIjQ5A-ISPnL9YkLYk__9Mx=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cass' after-exam treat at Subway a few Saturdays ago.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj1o8dQLcJE-daZWJktZGJkJeIyuh2c27a9za5JmU0XGzYQiAo9llv2lqVVRonoFAn3Fx1eduYyd2kc6uch6J9MSMUKjBYxnQcFKz8whCkoQnQVQKYDh5MX2mRVMwYYylrui6OI_CRWI2Jf-ne_0H1YWqbU3p_2KupCua8p9nunLE4Rl3DYvdgiGWyCXG4O" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj1o8dQLcJE-daZWJktZGJkJeIyuh2c27a9za5JmU0XGzYQiAo9llv2lqVVRonoFAn3Fx1eduYyd2kc6uch6J9MSMUKjBYxnQcFKz8whCkoQnQVQKYDh5MX2mRVMwYYylrui6OI_CRWI2Jf-ne_0H1YWqbU3p_2KupCua8p9nunLE4Rl3DYvdgiGWyCXG4O=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Subway is Cass' all-time favorite fast-food and I think the sandwiches are a tad overpriced.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXqB7U6VOhwz-SMKENkgkNMBDdNmcYFtTPLX53H69X9C_5F8-I2runERVKZxeiytBVme_PWBmdcDeztmF3sEPMAcBqd2oRpWwDDyEn_BsBANOrI56svZW9a7ALx9hzGWtkpQanKFrMcgNlUX5Gvv0-yejv0kvz2H7kM5LqTxOkoX2RzT6Bs4w2KnsiCHoX" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXqB7U6VOhwz-SMKENkgkNMBDdNmcYFtTPLX53H69X9C_5F8-I2runERVKZxeiytBVme_PWBmdcDeztmF3sEPMAcBqd2oRpWwDDyEn_BsBANOrI56svZW9a7ALx9hzGWtkpQanKFrMcgNlUX5Gvv0-yejv0kvz2H7kM5LqTxOkoX2RzT6Bs4w2KnsiCHoX=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The set that Cass chose came with a complimentary photo of Cha Eun Woo, one of Korea's top k-pop stars and current ambassador of Subway.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEisRSpJOBsDpTm97wXHWVfgj7mmLSPo_CisNSPwXp5XcV0FuVNPc9sZaC7mKaMD6FfRk3qTDz_7_oAroVIjavFcR1qLbvZGHQ5tr0cuHR1Me30cDl4cBIuvT4AL1u35bABNp_td0zffy3Ec_9GWTaaFyqrJpcozZEhx7WmOM44KZBhoWy9Q5tz8ewAhUa5y" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEisRSpJOBsDpTm97wXHWVfgj7mmLSPo_CisNSPwXp5XcV0FuVNPc9sZaC7mKaMD6FfRk3qTDz_7_oAroVIjavFcR1qLbvZGHQ5tr0cuHR1Me30cDl4cBIuvT4AL1u35bABNp_td0zffy3Ec_9GWTaaFyqrJpcozZEhx7WmOM44KZBhoWy9Q5tz8ewAhUa5y=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">After Subway, Cass requested more <strike>junk </strike>food and pestered me to bring her to Family Mart for a sofuto. What is this white coating? I often wondered whether the white coating is chemical sprayed onto the fruits to prevent them from being attacked by bugs or chemical used to preserve the fruits. </p><p>Today as I washed a punnet of blueberries and popped the sweet berries into my mouth, my curiosity got the better of me. I Googled for an answer to quell my doubts and curiosity. </p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjTrNHdrv7EZbSdQBgjNQFQBdfAnWizNxBPydoc_MriLArYzC1LNbHSa7VAc0KgFzadqT4KWTHjQnkWxmcf-ejxQJWT5ZvPg5c67HeOqre5PX_0VRH-S1duEPO8k0zZOtwYPbx-BR2OQAy9wLUA42SWK-gadEmeAvR2KoZ2IJIrsgYUpLsBOhpdyvi6WfVC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjTrNHdrv7EZbSdQBgjNQFQBdfAnWizNxBPydoc_MriLArYzC1LNbHSa7VAc0KgFzadqT4KWTHjQnkWxmcf-ejxQJWT5ZvPg5c67HeOqre5PX_0VRH-S1duEPO8k0zZOtwYPbx-BR2OQAy9wLUA42SWK-gadEmeAvR2KoZ2IJIrsgYUpLsBOhpdyvi6WfVC=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br /><br /></div><p>The white waxy coating is called bloom, and it's there to protect the fruit from damage and disease. </p><p>It's natural and it's not sprayed on artificially. The coating protects the berries from any external damage. The bloom, otherwise known as epicuticular wax, helps stop bacteria and fungal spores from sticking to the fruit and spoiling them. In fact, all fruits are coated in bloom - and it's just because blueberries are so dark that it is more visible. </p><p>Although the white film may scare some off, shoppers should in fact actively seek blueberries covered in the waxy coating as it means they are fresher.</p><p>The waxy coating does such a good job of sealing in moisture and preserving freshness that farms don't wash them before they reach the supermarket because they don't want to remove any of the wax.</p><p>If you, like me, have always been having the same worry whenever you eat blueberries and grapes, I hope this post gives you some peace of mind now. But don't forget to give your fruits a good rinse under running tap water before you enjoy them.</p><p><br /></p>Health Freak Mommyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16667292699809775619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4047251100310275845.post-79562100793707713262023-12-03T21:34:00.004+08:002023-12-06T20:52:10.107+08:00Goodies From New Zealand and Ipoh<p>The MIL is back in KL after staying in Auckland for two months with her third daughter and family. In what can only be described as another 'good week' in my books, I found myself happily spared from the demands of the kitchen. The reason? An abundance of delectable dishes is generously provided by my husband's central kitchen, which has been abuzz with activity due to various functions. From aromatic Malay classics to tantalizing Indonesian and Indian flavors, our week has been a celebration of diverse tastes and hassle-free meals.</p><p>The culinary adventure commenced with the enticing aroma of Ikan Masak Cili, a succulent fried mackerel drenched in a zesty fresh chili sauce. This dish alone set the tone for a week filled with mouthwatering surprises. Each day brought forth a tantalizing array of Malay favorites, including the rich and aromatic Chicken Rendang, the fiery kick of Fried Egg Sambal, and the savory delights of Brinjal Sambal and Prawn Sambal.</p><p><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhMhJ8UFu8q7ofsAb5fGyluPk7dzeFTk2ccFIOOrinyc63mTiFUWlQuJ5MN0ijA6lwPMzTxCGp6xmS_YGF_OhFdsvdfz3cgjLnbTbhTSWfD0alKVxPppEvYsa0M_qwLgyCzWot6fShaiiKc46GASfr1wwrzOg6X5uu7mOdKBBZ39HpfKcc24BZNcGKRAExK" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="893" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhMhJ8UFu8q7ofsAb5fGyluPk7dzeFTk2ccFIOOrinyc63mTiFUWlQuJ5MN0ijA6lwPMzTxCGp6xmS_YGF_OhFdsvdfz3cgjLnbTbhTSWfD0alKVxPppEvYsa0M_qwLgyCzWot6fShaiiKc46GASfr1wwrzOg6X5uu7mOdKBBZ39HpfKcc24BZNcGKRAExK=w640-h640" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ikan Masak Gulai, Brinjal Sambal, Egg Sambal and Chili Prawns.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhgfS-4AR-xp5kPtswXqbmiEJDv9_FPz9Ry5Kq08Kxf-QP-DO9OsG4g-FG4PHQM5fldnLXvk8Hlj_atnh9RdxJ8F_koY3ST0j-2tbj9PDg47D3BWHAs58wqxi-QOXbvT9r7Wj-VTMsc3juQtl96kGnhqHpBq1_r7rY-Ro9qgWD7fd7uRIjs28k58UQ3IPdJ" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="1190" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhgfS-4AR-xp5kPtswXqbmiEJDv9_FPz9Ry5Kq08Kxf-QP-DO9OsG4g-FG4PHQM5fldnLXvk8Hlj_atnh9RdxJ8F_koY3ST0j-2tbj9PDg47D3BWHAs58wqxi-QOXbvT9r7Wj-VTMsc3juQtl96kGnhqHpBq1_r7rY-Ro9qgWD7fd7uRIjs28k58UQ3IPdJ=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Indian fish curry with veggies and chicken rendang.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></p><p>The central kitchen's offerings didn't stop there; they extended to the sumptuous Ikan Masak Gulai, where mackerel swam gracefully in a coconut milk curry and the aromatic allure of Indian Curry Fish. The fried fish were super crispy, so crispy that even the bones were edible. <br /><br /></p><p>The convenience of having the central kitchen take charge of our meals not only offered respite from the daily chore of cooking but also allowed us to savor the authentic flavors cooked by hubby’s staff. As I revel in the joys of hassle-free dining, I can't help but hope that this trend continues. The prospect of receiving delectable meals from hubby's kitchen on a regular basis is, undoubtedly, a culinary luxury as it allows me to step back from the kitchen. </p><div><br /></div>Health Freak Mommyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16667292699809775619noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4047251100310275845.post-15512350090520683682023-11-23T22:27:00.002+08:002023-11-23T22:27:12.374+08:00Tuesday, 21 November 2023<p>Hubby hadn't eaten his lunch yet and Whatsapped me to join him for grocery shopping and then for lunch. He needed to stock up for some upcoming events. I was having brunch at home when he called and later drove to the supermarket to meet him. </p><p>After we were done shopping, we went to LDG for lunch. He has been craving steak for a long time but each time he suggested steak, I declined his suggestion as I preferred something light and easy for my digestion. Moreover, I am now cutting down on red meat due to Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (genetic high cholesterol). FH is an inherited condition characterized by higher-than-normal levels of blood cholesterol. I only eat red meat once or twice a week. As her week-long holiday is coming to an end and school will resume on Monday, I agreed, even though I had nothing to buy. I bought almost everything that I needed during the 11.11 Sale last week. </p><p>I thought that this girl would be done with her window shopping in just a couple of hours but I was so wrong. She didn't want to go home and we spent 6 frigging hours in the mall! With nothing to buy, I still ended up a few hundred Ringgit poorer. I bought hubby's Christmas and birthday present. His birthday is just a few days after Chrismas, so I got him a present for both occasions 😆</p><p>I wasn't even hungry but got myself a boba tea from Tealive and a bunch of buns from Barcook, our favorite bakery, for the girls. Sherilyn worked part-time at Barcook for half a year after her SPM exam this year. The perks are pretty attractive but she told me that it's stressful working as a cashier as she hardly had time for breaks. The bakery is perpetually swamped with customers.</p><p>To wait for Cass, I spent three hours at Jaya Grocer, pushing the cart round and round all the aisles, and ended up with a bunch of things that I didn't really need.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjvB25oMStafJo2r2pMGLWlty0VHBPB7MohynIXoaFUOP_9zvS3cAT5-kIB7dMPBnpNprVUBfIQSm1uOt57pifuQJCpabDne8YDKIMPSf8gMSjp3veWBcuEwh8l0Az_IPBpqh7tMgE1oAdxHT9W3WvpT2aVK0fwme5AUNkL4-x8qENnbbIxujCSJVv3Kgop" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjvB25oMStafJo2r2pMGLWlty0VHBPB7MohynIXoaFUOP_9zvS3cAT5-kIB7dMPBnpNprVUBfIQSm1uOt57pifuQJCpabDne8YDKIMPSf8gMSjp3veWBcuEwh8l0Az_IPBpqh7tMgE1oAdxHT9W3WvpT2aVK0fwme5AUNkL4-x8qENnbbIxujCSJVv3Kgop=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br />A bunch of rather healthy foodstuff - matcha green tea bags, radish kimchi, Benns 99.9% dark chocolate, triple-washed salad, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, blueberries, and so-called healthy popcorn (non-GMO). I told Cass to hurry up coz the longer I spent at the supermarket, the more stuff would end up inside the trolley!<p></p><p>I also found a pair of Nike shoes from JD that are SO comfy on my feet! </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhT-D9tDsaX10ca5euIP3OkmVuvCWasM9N_LD1mbOQQ6GbYrleD_UR4-UyIpiTmJ0hc3amt9bAZoYlXlfkh51FSky2vh6Y8vzZcx8C8A10Cq4dxp4M4yEFmgFsEK2CxOJweLq0MynvNIFcVUCNoO83elrf_8JVtx2uKv9XhH2wvqckYtlzJ6tzPiIvGAXLZ" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="893" data-original-width="669" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhT-D9tDsaX10ca5euIP3OkmVuvCWasM9N_LD1mbOQQ6GbYrleD_UR4-UyIpiTmJ0hc3amt9bAZoYlXlfkh51FSky2vh6Y8vzZcx8C8A10Cq4dxp4M4yEFmgFsEK2CxOJweLq0MynvNIFcVUCNoO83elrf_8JVtx2uKv9XhH2wvqckYtlzJ6tzPiIvGAXLZ=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhCa0XTdbNZG98TVqHSChNt6pxd84svqRO-EAdT6XsMj2hoiqjb2noaMIU1-4o7zCj1D6coeOLN6ntnx5NNcthrSHI-YsZzMc40kBqFIj3gPDdsRpiNVF7uCV81LLIpUNSUbGsGvE0Wsq_8LOCOLeHOW6bOO1FmAmojGg4k15taZar0zc_xwW2B4Felse-7" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="1728" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhCa0XTdbNZG98TVqHSChNt6pxd84svqRO-EAdT6XsMj2hoiqjb2noaMIU1-4o7zCj1D6coeOLN6ntnx5NNcthrSHI-YsZzMc40kBqFIj3gPDdsRpiNVF7uCV81LLIpUNSUbGsGvE0Wsq_8LOCOLeHOW6bOO1FmAmojGg4k15taZar0zc_xwW2B4Felse-7=w512-h640" width="512" /></a></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p>The Nike Free RN NN Women's Road Running Shoes (RM439) are made from sustainable materials. Before my mil left for New Zealand, I gave her the key as she wanted to keep her stuff in the SDB but she hasn't returned the key to me yet. </p><p>But I wasn't 100% sure if the key was with the mil. She could have returned it to me and I misplaced it. That happened about 1.5 months ago. I started to go into panic mode!</p><p>I couldn't call the mil right away to ask her the whereabouts of the key as she was five hours ahead of us and it was 2am in Auckland. I WhatsApp-ed one of the bank staff to ask him about the procedures but he had already resigned from the bank. I Googled to find out what the procedures are for getting a key replaced. The answer I got sent me into a more panicked state of mind. You cannot get your lost key replaced. The entire SDB lock has to be replaced with a brand-new one. A locksmith has to be engaged to hack the SDB. All the costs have to be borne by the SDB holder, ranging from RM300 - RM500! I couldn't imagine money flying away like that, just like how hubby had to pay RM1k to get Alycia's iPad repaired when she carelessly slammed the car door on her iPad recently.</p><p>I sent a voice message to the MIL before going to bed. The next morning, she Whatsapp-ed me to tell me that the key was still with her and told me where she had hidden it. What a relief!! 😅😅</p><p>Last week we had food from hubby's kitchen again, on an almost daily basis. I'm the happiest as this means fewer chores for me in the kitchen 😊</p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhCfAH1iZYkY7GsaUYJOnYq1ZD6HoZRYTQJvEItZ00YFnPDK4fvu2Q9jB4oazNSxqgZcbrHcRmpDOVHw1RdTG_AJML_NMIFaeaHLM5LyaYQCtvLaWjLj2T2aQ1mM790LyxppyfEAgzxo-Ikm4Xbtt77uwTU6-RDLRYS_R8Qu2wia-DoMCp-cb0NAocrQ67g" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="659" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhCfAH1iZYkY7GsaUYJOnYq1ZD6HoZRYTQJvEItZ00YFnPDK4fvu2Q9jB4oazNSxqgZcbrHcRmpDOVHw1RdTG_AJML_NMIFaeaHLM5LyaYQCtvLaWjLj2T2aQ1mM790LyxppyfEAgzxo-Ikm4Xbtt77uwTU6-RDLRYS_R8Qu2wia-DoMCp-cb0NAocrQ67g=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sambal prawns.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjE6VWgEJAukf65E9X8EEt0sSDurgIOhWLDS1P8-F3GGKlCBazPwGqd7JgyuW-UY05-6k-rmDullx_DTuFfDqYTPtCjxoZ-N3cLJIeBgX62CeIsxMBBNyNToWS68_4Zc5pPKBWs78KHhF3OBgmegMinHNr7WuBSZOTOM8vy-W-CplNl_grIJBy80EajagGi" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="659" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjE6VWgEJAukf65E9X8EEt0sSDurgIOhWLDS1P8-F3GGKlCBazPwGqd7JgyuW-UY05-6k-rmDullx_DTuFfDqYTPtCjxoZ-N3cLJIeBgX62CeIsxMBBNyNToWS68_4Zc5pPKBWs78KHhF3OBgmegMinHNr7WuBSZOTOM8vy-W-CplNl_grIJBy80EajagGi=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mee Siam</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiaMJvK9zbVRoa7a1nQ3HmsCCkLJtarUmavXlf-3qWrliu5ww05UeV7hYD4xFoAU5rYhdGizDkK4MlYjJmXnp6qPwUWQzpZwZNpjpcKaJhmOXUi2X_7KD9dyCt3Yeagl1xu__WzHMUhmdnTVtRnIWFVL2-z_DqDck3GT1sc3kCl_FrytKJmYvmEC03_N9q2" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="878" data-original-width="659" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiaMJvK9zbVRoa7a1nQ3HmsCCkLJtarUmavXlf-3qWrliu5ww05UeV7hYD4xFoAU5rYhdGizDkK4MlYjJmXnp6qPwUWQzpZwZNpjpcKaJhmOXUi2X_7KD9dyCt3Yeagl1xu__WzHMUhmdnTVtRnIWFVL2-z_DqDck3GT1sc3kCl_FrytKJmYvmEC03_N9q2=w480-h640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Chicken Kuzi (my favorite), cooked using a wide variety of spices, ghee, and Koukakis Greek yogurt (imported from Greece).
