Alycia's Book Collection

If there's anything that can please my 8.5YO girl, it has to be books, not school books or workbooks though, but storybooks. The Geronimo Stilton fever is almost coming to a sizzling end now. Instead, Diary of A Whimpy Kid and Ronald Dahl books are slowly making their way into her book shelves.

Her latest interest is Science Spy, a kids' magazine on interesting Science topics which can be purchased from Cold Storage and other major book stores.

Do You Buy Books Or Borrow Them?

We used to invest quite a bit on books for our girls. However, I stopped buying books recently in order to cut cost. Now, I borrow books from the library in our church and this library is awesome with so many titles to choose from!

Do you buy books for your kids or do you borrow them from the library?

Your Baby Can Read Book

Baby C must have been really bored sleeping in her pink bouncinet the whole day, ever since she was a few days old. Lately, she can’t nap for long during the day and wants to be stimulated all the time. She loves to be talked to, sung to, she loves it when I dance with her, she will doze off really easily when I bring her for a walk in her stroller and she loves watching TV too. Nope, I did not let her watch the regular TV programs. Yesterday, I put on the starter VCD on “Teach Your Baby To Read” by Dr Robert Titzer for her to watch and oh my, her eyes were fixated at the TV. I bought the set of VCDs for Sherilyn when she was around 1 year old. I am thinking of getting the book on “Your Baby Can Read”, by Dr Robert Titzer too. Buy.com is offering 10% off 900,000 Amazon books now. Go check out buy.com now!

Being A Mother Is The Toughest Job

Life as a mum to 2 toddlers and a newborn baby is crazy. I salute SAHMs who have more than 2 kids and without a maid to help them. I still find it very difficult to organize my time and I always find that I don’t have enough time in a day to accomplish all that I want to do. I have been sleeping at 1am+ everyday ever since my confinement lady left on Saturday. Since my mil is unwell and can’t help me much with the kids, I have to handle all 3 of my kids by myself. Last night I went to bed at 1am and woke up at 7am today to prepare Alycia for school. I also don’t get uninterrupted sleep as Baby C wakes up every 1-2 hours for milk and to suckle my teats for comfort. I feel so exhausted and sleepy all the time. I even fell asleep when the urut lady (Malay masseuse) came to massage me today. I think I really need to read some books on parenting advise such as the Mom's Ultimate Family Organizer: A One-Stop Planner for Busy Moms or the Supernanny to guide me to be a better mum and to better manage my time.

Instill the Love For Books In Your Child

What’s the easiest, fastest and cheapest way of increasing your knowledge and widening your horizons? It has got to be reading – reading all kinds of materials from reference books to text books, magazines, novels, newspapers, internet and the list goes. I’ve always loved reading and I strongly encourage my 2 gals to read. I used to make them books myself but now that I don’t have the time to make them anymore, I buy them books, both from the local bookstores and online. These days, you can get discount books from many fantastic online book stores. One of the best gifts you can give your kids is to instill the love for reading in them. Start reading to your kids even when they are infants and they will surely grow up to love books, just like my 2 gals.

Bedtime Ritual

Alycia and Sherilyn reading on my bed. Note : Sherilyn busy counting away with her fingers.

Sherilyn reading her favourite book.

Alycia learning to read from her Leap Frog.

On most nights before bed, I will either read to Alycia and Sherilyn or sometimes the gals prefer to 'read' on their own and Alycia will tell me to go to my room to do my own things and not to kacau them. You see, so young and they already want their own space and want me to get lost :shake head:

The gals can sometimes 'read' independently an entire book, especially if it's their favourite books. I think it's more of them memorizing the pages. Anyway, I am glad that my gals have acquired the love for books and hope that this will be their lifelong love as there is no better and cheaper way to broaden one's horizons than to keep reading, always.
