Cheap And Good Worksheets For Primary Students

I had wanted to get these type of worksheets for Alycia to practise in preparation for her exam recently but did not know where to get them. I told my mum who was a teacher and tutor and right away, she knew where to get them.

My mum bought these worksheets for all the subjects and before her exam, she helped me drill Alycia with these.

These cost only RM2-3 each and can be purchased from Popular bookstores.

Homeschooling

In less than a month’s time, Alycia will be wearing the dark blue and white uniform for primary school students and pushing a trolley bag, ready to start Primary 1. She has just turned 6 years old and I think she will be one of the youngest in her class. I can’t believe how fast time has zoomed past us. Exactly 6 years ago, she was my long-awaited, first bundle of joy and now, she’s so grown up and ready to start primary school. I really don’t know how she will fare in a Chinese public school. Right now, she is already struggling with her written Mandarin. Each time she asks me for help in her written Mandarin, I have no choice but to turn her down and say “sorry, mummy can’t help you”. I feel really bad about this. When she officially starts school, I hope she will eventually catch up and cope well.

If my hubs and I have enough money, we will definitely send our 3 girls to a private school. I have even considered homeschooling my girls but in our country, homeschooling is still not widely practiced and accepted. In Western countries, homeschooling is a very common practise. It is way cheaper than sending your kids to a private school and you can select from a wide range of homeschooling curriculum from such websites as globalstudentnetwork.com. I have visited their website and am impressed with their range of curriculum online. I may want to use their curriculum for comparison with our country’s education curriculum. If you are interested in homeschooling, you may want to check out this website.

Practising Math And Time Telling the eWay

I recently found a very good website for kids to practise solving Math questions. KidsNumbers.com is a free math resource designed by teachers, specifically for students and children of all ages. It's a place where students can practice all aspects of math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, in a fun and stress free way. Both Alycia and Sherilyn love solving Math equations at this website and can sit in front of the PC for at least an hour solving Math questions. I can even use their free Worksheet Generator to create customized worksheets.

Alycia having fun solving Math questions and brushing up her time-telling / clock reading skill which she is still not perfect yet at KidsNumbers.com.

Baby Loves Her BumbleBee Educational VCDs

I bought a set of BumbleBee educational VCDs for my 2 older gals 4 years ago. 2 years ago when my 2 older gals got bored of the VCDs, I had wanted to give those VCDs away as I did not plan to have #3 but as fate has it, God had blessed me with my sweetie-pie... and now, I am recycling these VCDs and find them so useful.

Here is part of the set of BumbleBee Bee Smart Baby Vocabulary Builder:

... which Baby absolutely loves. These days, she can sit still on her highchair and get really, really engrossed and focused on the TV for at least half an hour and sometimes even an hour whilst I spoon-feed her formula milk. Whilst she's all soaked up in the program, I'll quickly shove the spoonfuls of milk into her mouth lol! She has learnt quite a number of new vocab and can say out a handful of words whenever she sees the picture of the object shown on TV.

Apart from this series, BumbleBee ABCs and 123s are also in my stash of educational VCDs collection. My 2 older gals learnt their ABCs and 123s from these BumbleBee VCDs, as well as from Barney's. If you want your toddler to learn their ABCs and 123s in a fun way, I'll recommend BumbleBee and Barney. Well, they worked pretty well on my gals.

Teach Your Baby To Read

Last week, I dug out some VCDs on 'Your Baby Can Read' by Prof Dr Robert Titzer, which I bought for Sherilyn when she was around 1 year old. Sherilyn was very interested in the VCDs when she was younger and I would put on the VCD during dinner every single day, coz that's the only time my 2 rascals would sit still and watch the VCD. I completed the 5 series in half a year and after that, both Alycia and Sherilyn lost interest in the VCDs. But Sherilyn could recognize a few words during the time when I showed her the VCDs. I remember she would nod her head when she saw the word 'yes' or shook her head when she saw the word 'no'.

I placed Baby C on the mattress and her eyes were fixated at the TV. Sherilyn also joined in and it was like a refresher course for her.

See how intent Sher and Baby C were watching the VCD. Hopefully they will be able to recognize some words upon completion of watching the entire series.

This is the Starter Video and I am showing it to Baby C now.

Hi-5

My kids love watching the Hi-5 series more than Barney or any other cartoons.... and they are not the only ones who enjoy watching them, even I love watching them. They have learnt so much from these Australian educational VCDs. Whilst most educational VCDs are a tad boring and dry, Hi-5 is very entertaining and most kids I know of love them. Some of the things that Alycia and Sherilyn have learnt through these VCDs are phonics, body parts (not simple body parts but parts with scientific names that I don't even know!), cause and effect, musical instruments, colors, shapes, sounds that animals make, types of dance and much more. Of course, Alycia and Sherilyn's grammar and vocab have also improved.... and sometimes they even speak in Aussie slang. Sometimes, the three of us would dance together to the catchy music.
