Another Day Of Puking For Alycia

Today is another day of puking for Alycia. Our paed said that the puking is caused by the high body temperature. Alycia did not have much food in her tummy yesterday and today as most of the food came out right away after going in. All that she could stomach today was a piece of cream crackers and a tiny croissant.... which luckily remained inside without coming out. She puked twice yesterday and thrice today. She puked so hard that tiny red blood spots appeared on her neck and cheeks like this :

Alycia's lips were also crimson red as if she had applied red lipstick and her cheeks were also flushed. She felt so weak after the puking sessions that she could only half open her eyes and slept most of the time. She also complaint of tummy ache the whole morning and sat on the throne for almost an hour in pain.

Sherilyn who is still having fever is just as active and mischievous as ever. Even when her body temperature was at 38 degrees Celcius, she was still jumping around like a monkey and kept asking me endless questions. Look at her cheeky smile here.

Poor Alycia

That's how sickly and weak Alycia looks now. The medication is making her listless, drowsy and really whiny. There were only two other times when Alycia was this sick and listless. The first time was when she was 13 months old and was hospitalized for Rotavirus (and I was 37 weeks pregnant with Sherilyn). The second time was 1.5 years ago when we had just moved in to our house. She normally gets well within 3-4 days but this time, looks like it's going to last at least 7-10 days.

See how red her lips are.

Her face is also flushed and there's hardly any smile on her face.

Ice-Cream To The Rescue

Daddy bought a tub of Haegan Daz ice cream for the gals to soothe their aching throats resulting from the ulcers. Now, the gals look forward to eating their medicine coz they know they can have a very nice and sweet treat to go with their medicine. As for me, it's a breeze feeding them medicine - no more fuss and no more puking!

Updates - Alycia's Fever and Throat Ulcer

Alycia finally went back to school today after being absent for 2 days. She still hasn't completed her course of antibiotics but today it will be her last day. The antibiotics is still causing her slight diarrhoea and I hope she won't accidentally poo poo in her panty in school today. Thank God Alycia loves going to school and she still has no problems waking up early to go to school.

Updates - Sherilyn's Fever

Whilst having her afternoon nap a moment ago, Sherilyn started to cough and cry. The cry turned into wail and she was obviously in great discomfort. She sounded like there's a lot of phlegm stuck in her throat and in a lying position, the phlegm was gagging her and making her nauseous. I quickly pulled her up, hugged her and stroke her back. She continued to cry in discomfort and seconds later, she puked. Luckily I was already well prepared. I have plastic bags located at every corner of the house within easy reach, as my 2 gals have a tendency to puke all the time. After puking, I put Sherilyn back to sleep but she cried again and coughed. It sounded like there is still some more phlegm stuck in her throat. I quickly pulled her up, stroke her back and brought her to the kitchen. She puked again, but this time only phlegm. She is unable to sleep comfortably in a supine position or side ways. As I'm typing this post, Sherilyn is alseep on my lap, with her heavy hard head lying on my chest. I know she feels much more comfortable sleeping in this position but I'm feeling really uncomfortable! That's the labour of love!

Updates - Sherilyn's Fever

Daddy and Sherilyn just got back from the paed's office. The dr said that she has the exact same symptoms as Alycia - ulcer in the throat, which is the reason for her high fever. He has prescribed the exact same medicine to Sherilyn as well - Augmentin antibiotics, anti-swelling medicine and Paracetamol syrup. Now, I have double trouble of feeding 2 sick kittens their medicine. Will be going out to the bakery to get a chiffon cake to give the gals as treat after their medicine. More sleepless nights to come for me....

Update - Sherilyn's Fever

Sherilyn's temperature shot up to almost 40 degrees Celsius last night at around 8pm. Quickly gave her a Voltaren suppository despite her strong protest. Her temp then went down but at 4am, she walked into our room. She said "daddy I want to drink water" and when daddy gave her the tumbler, she gulped down all the water and asked for more. She then kept talking and talking and I knew that it's her high temp which made her brain go 'out of sync'. This usually happens to the gals when they have high fever. Alycia will have illusions and Sher will keep talking, but intelligently. I checked her temp and it showed 39.3 degrees Celsius. I immediately gave her another suppository. For the next 1 hour, Sher just clung on to her new Barney stickers and kept talking to me (luckily intelligent talk and not on wierd stuff!). Daddy will bring her to the paed later.

Updates - Sherilyn's Fever

Sherilyn's fever subsided last night and this morning, despite not taking any fever medicine. After lunch today, her body was burning hot. When I checked her temperature, it was 39.1 degrees Celsius. I told her I have to give her a suppository but she freaked out. She kept crying and pleaded to me saying "I don't want this medicine, please put back in fridge". I know with such high body temperature even the kids' Panadol Suspension would not bring the fever down. Worried that she might cry till she puke, I placed the suppository back into the fridge and gave her 7ml of kids' strawberry flavored Panadol Suspension syrup. She had no problem taking the medicine, with 3 mini Ritz chesse sandwiches as treat. Hopefully the fever will go down, else I'll have to bring her to the paed tomorrow.

Cooling Fruits For Throat Ulcer

Poor Alycia has fever and an ulcer in her throat and didn't have appetite for any food, except for cool fruits like pear and watermelon. She ordered papaya from daddy and as usual, his princess' wish is his command and he went right away to buy her some solo papayas and also a huge watermelon!

Updates - Alycia's Fever

I did not get to sleep well last night. Well, this is expected whenever a child is ill. Alycia's temperature is still very high. I sponged her and woke her up to drink water throughout the night. Luckily she wasn't cranky. This morning, I had to given her another Voltaren suppository as her temperature is still 38.8 degrees celsius. She cried each time I had to insert the suppository into her anus. She is also complaining of body ache. Daddy will bring her to the clinic later. I'm praying that it's not Dengue fever.

Sherilyn Was Self Healed From Cold

On Saturday, Sherilyn was still having fever and her face was smutty - from the overflowing goo that turned into glue. Her cheeks were hard as a result of the gooey glue and she cried when I wiped it off with a wet hanky. She was sneezing and her voice had changed - she sounded like a sick cat. I had called the paed's office to book an appointment in the morning. After I had put the phone done, it just struck me that perhaps I am just being too kan cheong and over reactive. Should I be bringing my gals to the specialist each time they have a cold or fever? Should I just give her body a chance to self heal and see how it goes tomorrow? Each visit to the paed's office would leave my hubby at least RM100 poorer. So I told my hubby that we should just wait and see - maybe Sherilyn's immune system is strong enough to weather this cold? I then fed her with Manuka honey (double dosage) and fed her barley water and lots of plain water throughout the day. Thank God, the next day (Sunday), her goo stopped flowing and the fever subsided too. Today, she looks perfectly well. I guess it's good that sometimes we parents don't over react. Of course we have to exercise caution and discretion for each case is different.

Sherilyn's Better Today

Sherilyn's body temperature has gone down today. Her temp was at 37 degrees celsius this morning. She's also acting like her usual self - mischievous, active and her she has regained her appetite. I had a sleepless night last night - kept touching her body, sponged her, fed her with water and ensuring that she's ok. Sherilyn kept talking in her sleep last night, saying "I dont want mummy" - she must have been terrified with the suppository coz she was very tensed when I inserted it into her backside.

Alycia also went back to school today though she's still got cough and phlegm. I hope she'll be fine. I bought some pearl powder from the chinese medicine hall last night and I've just fed 1 sachet to Sherilyn. She hated it but I hope it will help remove the phlegm. Thanks to those who have prayed for my gals.

Sherilyn's Down Too

Remember I posted earlier today that Sherilyn puked in the morning after bawling? After lunch today, she complained of tummy ache and cried. I put her on the potty but nothing could come out. Minutes later, she puked - everything came out. After puking, she was still clutching her tummy and cried. I put on some 'yuyi' oil on her tummy and took her temperature. One ear showed 38 degrees celsius and the other ear showed 38.3 degrees celsius. Her symptoms are exactly the same as Alycia - lots of phlegm which induced the vomitting, tummy ache, loss of appetite and general malaise. I think it must be the ice-creams that they have eaten over the weekend - 1 scoop on Thursday and 1 scoop on Sunday. Their little bodies just can't handle too much of cold stuff and sweet stuff since I hardly feed them these stuff at home? I don't know. It could be Rotavirus. Anyway, half an hour later, her temperature shot up to 38.7 degree celsius. I quickly gave her a Paracetamol Suppository and sponged her body. I hope she gets better later. Looks like it's going to be another sleepless night for me tonight - checking temperature, feeding water, sponging body, changing diaper, etc the whole night. Well, no complaints, that's part of motherhood!
