Fun Way To Learn ABCs and 123s

There is no better way to help your kids learn than through fun and play.

Here's what I mean:

Check out Baby's left hand - wrapped up in a plastic bag to protect the IV catheter and bandaged from being wet. This pic was taken last week when she had a UTI attack and needed antibiotics jabs through IV for 4 days.

Bath times can be made into fun sessions and these foam alphabet and numbers from ELC are a great way to help toddlers learn. My sil from Hong Kong gave it to Baby 2 X'mas ago.

On another note, Baby could 'sing' the ABC song about a month back. She can 'sing' (though pronounciation is still not clear yet) and hum this tune, as with many other nursery rhymes.

Killing Two Birds With One Stone

That's what I like to do - kill two birds with one stone lol! Instead of merely feeding Baby C her meals, I flash cards to her, show her alphabet and numbers foam, teach her colors and show her cheh cheh's toys like fish, burger, pot, cup, etc, point out to her all her body parts, point out things in the house to her, among others. Babies just love activities when they have their meals, instead of sitting and doing nothing. They will surely get restless within minutes. Baby C is learning well and I'm amazed with her progress, despite the challenges that she has to grapple with.

Alycia Can Read Her Peter And Jane Books!

I just have to put this on record before it slips my mind again. Since yesterday, Alycia has been reading.... reading on her own that is and she's reading the Ladybird Peter and Jane series. She managed to read the entire 1A book yesterday and today.

Today, I took out the Peter and Jane 1B book and she could also read most pages in the book. This time, my mum and I were convinced that she read it through recognition of words and not through memorization. I am just so happy and proud of her achievement.

Can you believe that this book is over 30 years old? It once belonged to Raymond, my elder brother, than me and then my younger brother Roy. Now, my gals are reading it. Awesome!

Never mind about the yellow stains, the book is still in pretty good shape!

Teach Your Baby To Read

Last week, I dug out some VCDs on 'Your Baby Can Read' by Prof Dr Robert Titzer, which I bought for Sherilyn when she was around 1 year old. Sherilyn was very interested in the VCDs when she was younger and I would put on the VCD during dinner every single day, coz that's the only time my 2 rascals would sit still and watch the VCD. I completed the 5 series in half a year and after that, both Alycia and Sherilyn lost interest in the VCDs. But Sherilyn could recognize a few words during the time when I showed her the VCDs. I remember she would nod her head when she saw the word 'yes' or shook her head when she saw the word 'no'.

I placed Baby C on the mattress and her eyes were fixated at the TV. Sherilyn also joined in and it was like a refresher course for her.

See how intent Sher and Baby C were watching the VCD. Hopefully they will be able to recognize some words upon completion of watching the entire series.

This is the Starter Video and I am showing it to Baby C now.

The entire series of 'Your Baby Can Read' VCDs.
