RMCO Day 49 ~ Tuesday, 28 July 2020

Hubs Whatsapped me pictures of a Collie and a Border Collie yesterday! It's something that is totally not him.  When he sent videos of the super adorable Border Collie pups to me, Cass and I thought that he'd like to bring a puppy back to us!  He knows that Cass and I love dogs. And I've told him umpteen times that when the girls have all graduated from Uni, I will get a dog as I would have lots of free time by thenπŸ˜‚

We. Were. Hopeful!  But I knew that it would never happen as  1) someone would FREAK OUT;  2) a Border Collie will grow into a huge dog and staying in a condo, there's no way we can keep a huge dog with lots of fur πŸ˜“

Months ago, there were Border Collie pups for sale at the pet shop that Cass and I used to visit after piano class on Saturdays. Those cuties came with a whopping RM8,000 price tag each!!  The pet shop recently succumbed to the MCO /pandemic and closed down πŸ˜“

For almost an hour, Cass was begging her dad and grandma to allow her to keep a dog in the house. But I knew that it's not going to happen. Last year she begged me to allow her have a pet hamster or gerbil but having rodents in the house is a big NO!  πŸ™…

Much as I love dogs, having one is just like having another child. I loved all my pet dogs like they were my children and I cried loads when they died. At the moment, I have no time for a pet or another child. I can't imagine myself waking up in the middle of the night to feed the pup or to clean up shit and pee the entire day. NO WAY!  So we had let go of this golden opportunity to have a pedigree pup, offered to us by hubby's friend for FREE. When the time is ripe, I am sure that another pup will come into our lives again.

Kimbap (Korean sushi rolls) and Kimchi balls made by Sherilyn on Sunday evening and Monday evening respectively, for her brunch in school. She made some for Cass too.

RMCO Day 45 ~ Friday, 24 July 2020

Cass was slightly late when she got down to the lobby to the waiting school van today... all because of a moth in the house! This rascal can be a bully in the house but she's a scaredy cat and is terrified of flying insects, especially moths, butterflies, roaches and any insect that has fluttering wings πŸ˜‚

A brown and black moth flew into the house when hubs opened the door when he came home last night. This morning the moth was in the kitchen and hubs had to help us catch the moth before he went to his shop at 6 a.m.  And he caught the butterfly like a pro, with only a plastic bag, and then released the butterfly through the window. But the butterfly flew back into the house as if it missed us!  Hubs had to run around the house to catch it again before finally releasing it back to where it belongs 😁

Beautiful sunset today with mist shrouding KL Tower, Twin Towers and The Exchange 106 (tallest building in South East Asia).

This is our cooking queen late yesterday evening, prepping her luxurious breakfast bento box for school the next day (today).

Her luxurious Japanese bento box for breakfast in school today, composed of simmered organic Japanese pumpkin in homemade Dashi, steamed organic tofu with homemade Dashi and egg rolls with avocado.  Chopped spring onions are organically grown in organic compost in pots (from onions) in our balcony.  All the items in her lunch box are soft as she's still struggling to eat with braces. She's currently in her 3rd week on braces.

Her Dashi was prepped a few days earlier using:

Kombu (dried kelp)
Katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
Iriko or niboshi (dried anchovies/sardines) -- she replaced it with homemade anchovies powder
Shiitake (dried shiitake mushrooms)

Dashi gives Japanese food its unique, rich, umami-packed savory flavor.  Sherilyn's homemade Dashi smells and tastes like the real deal!  So umami!!

5 different types of dashi in a jar and their ingredients.

Our very simple one pot dinner, my kind of meal as washing is minimal: rainbow fried rice

RMCO Day 41 ~ Monday, 20 July 2020

This morning's sunrise view at 6:45 a.m. was glorious, with beautiful scattering colors dancing in the skies,  a new beginning and another chance to live. It's the start of a brand new day with brand new hopes amidst the pandemic that's still far from over.

The Covid-19 situation in our country ain't looking too good again with new clusters found and new cases rising to double digits again 😭.  Our PM ain't too happy with the lackadaisical attitude of some complacent Malaysians and if the numbers keep going up again, the MCO will be reimposed again 😭

After sending Sherilyn to school, I went to the park to continue jogging, so that I could clock in at least 6,000 steps during the sunrise morning session. I'd done a 20-minute warm up brisk walking at the condo jogging treks after sending off Cass to the school van at 6:20 a.m..

This is the jogging trek at the park that I've been jogging on since 1997 when I first moved to this neighborhood. Three years later, we moved to Shah Alam but moved back to this neighborhood (which was a love at first sight for me when I first step foot into this neighborhood in 1990) in 2006 and have been staying here since.

After running for 40 mins at the park and running errands mid morning, I was pleasantly surprised when my FitBit vibrated at 12 noon to buzz me that I'd clocked in 10k steps. This gave me the allowance to nosh away the delish Nasi Lemak that I'd just collected from hubby's shop πŸ˜†

Droolicious chicken rendang cooked with loads of onions, garlic, cardamom, star anise and other spices. This time it's not too spicy for my sensitive throat and stomach. I ate so much chicken rendang with fragrant santan rice that I was still feeling full by dinner time.  I'd gone against my own diet and ate 2 heap tablespoons of rice! That's a lot for someone who doesn't eat rice and on a low carb diet.

This is why I have to run so hard every morning because of all the irresistible food from hubby's shop!

I normally remove my Fitbit after jogging in the morning but today, I wore it until 8pm, just to see how many steps I normally hit in a day. And it's a whopping 16,644 steps! This is my average on a regular school going day with jogging, running around to do errands and walking around the house to carry out chores.

Home baked spicy tuna and chicken floss buns ordered online to support another SME in our neighborhood as this couple's business has been affected since the start of the MCO.

Updates for This Week

I've been up to my eyeballs ever since schools reopened on Wednesday this week - with my Grab Mom duties, with writing jobs and with house chores. Thankfully there isn't much major cooking carried out in our kitchen by mil this week as there's been extra food for us cooked by hubby's chef for the past one week.   Any sort of pan-frying freaks me out as oil tends to fly everywhere and oh my poor hands cleaning up the horrifying grease on stoves, counter tops, tiled walls and floor! The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and painful wrist on my right hand has been reactivated and bothering me since the start of the MCO with non-stop moping and cleaning from cooking 3 meals a day for 6  pax in the house throughout the MCO.

Hubby's catering business is slowly but surely picking up as gatherings and weddings are now re-allowed by the Authorities on strict SOPs. We hope that his business will  be on full swing mode once again from August onwards.  His client who had to postpone her wedding just before the MCO started has now set a new date for the wedding, which will be held this coming Saturday. As the function will be held out of KL, hubs may need to arrange Airbnb lodging for his staff.

Hubby's diet-style dinner yesterday:

Fruit platter : cantaloupe, guava, pineapple and cherries.

Our dinner on Thursday:

Steamed stuffed puffed tofu with fish paste, blanched organic long beans, braised pork ribs with pear, fish head curry from hubby's shop and fried eggs.

The braised pork ribs with pear and fried eggs are bought from my friend's small eatery to support her business that's been badly affected since the MCO.  I now order home-cooked style food from her eatery on Thursdays as I have Grab Mom duties till almost 10pm every Thursday and Wednesday.  Maria comes in every Wednesday and Saturday.  On days that she's here, I feel such a heavy load taken off my shoulders! Soon when hubby's business is back to its pre-Covid19 days glory, we will be able to hire Maria on a 5-6x a week basis again πŸ™ but right now, we're still on a belt-tightening drive.

RMCO Day 35 ~ Tuesday, 14 July 2020

Today is the last day of our 4 months long quarantine holiday at home.  It's the first of its kind holiday in the history of Malaysia and I am loving it, though not on the part where hubby's wings and income are inevitably clipped. Other than the financial part, I am loving it that I don't have to rush out of the house throughout the day to fulfill my Grab Mom duties, I love it that my girls can attend online classes at home and I don't have to worry about their safety as they're at home 24/7.  I will be super worried about them now that they will be back in school. All the WHAT IFS keep playing in my head for the past few days. What if one of my girls are infected with the sodding Virus? What if schools have to be suspended again like in other countries?  What if our country goes through another lockdown?  I can go crazy thinking about this.

Thank God I've just remembered to re-activate my school day alarm to 4:45 a.m. on my phone, else on the first day of school tomorrow, the mother and kids will still be in slumberland when the transporters ring my phone at 6:15 a.m.! What would the transporters think of the mother? πŸ˜…

So if you're a mom with a kid going back to school tomorrow, remember to re-set your alarms on your clock, phone, whatever, yeah.

For the past few days we parents have been receiving SOPs from the school teacher on school reopening.  Today's SOP from Cass' school is on a new app called 1Cube which the parents have to download onto the phone.  It's a platform where the school updates information from exam dates to exam results, homework, announcements and pre-ordering of food for the kids. Because of this sodding Virus, there are many SOPs and new procedures introduced for the safety and welfare of the students, which is really a good thing.

Screenshot of 1Cube app on my phone on pre-ordering of food:

Beautiful sunrise at 7 a.m. today:

And this marks the end of my care-free days and late nights. Tonight it's back to going into the bedroom by 10 p.m.

Back-To-School Checklist ✅ During RMCO:

Set morning alarm on phone / clock
Face mask for kid and an extra mask in kid's bag
Hand sanitizer
Wet wipes
Packet tissue papers
Fork and spoon
Water tumbler filled with water
Bag packed
Uniform - see if your kid can still fit into his/her uniform after 4 months of being sedentary at home!
School shoes - see if your kid can still fit into his/her shoes
Socks
Lunch box
Bring out thermometer and check your kid's temperature before sending him/her to school.  If temperature is 37.5C and above, your kid should stay at home and be closely monitored on symptoms!

All the best to all the parents with kids going back to school tomorrow!

RMCO Day 32 ~ Saturday, 11 July 2020

This week is the last week that Cass and Sherilyn need to attend online tuition and school's online classes.  They will be going back to school next week after a 4-month quarantine.  Tuition centers will also be reopening effective next Wednesday. This week will be the last week that I get to sleep in till 6:45 a.m. everyday before the torturous grind of waking up at 4:30 a.m. resumes πŸ˜₯  I am definitely going to miss being stuck at home with my girls but don't miss being their chauffeur who has to report for work at 7 a.m. and can only call it a day at 10 p.m..   Nonetheless, I am glad that our lives can return to some semblance of normalcy now.  I miss my daily pre-dawn jogs at the jogging treks of our condo when the air is still cool while I immerse in the peace from the sheer silence and darkness of the surroundings. Though I will miss the freedom of not needing to rush anywhere, I certainly do not wish for our country to be plunged into another lockdown.  Hong Kong has already suspended schools as the number of Covid19 cases surged again. This is something that I hope that our country doesn't have to go through again.

Lunch and dinner today:

ABC chicken soup with organic Pineapple chicken:

Sherilyn whipped up an appetizing Mapo tofu as she's still struggling to eat with her new braces:

Hubs went to the famous Nasi Kandar Kudu Bin Abdul @ Jalan TAR with his friend and bought two packets of Nasi Kandar with fried chicken and fried fish for us.  Each packet had enormous amount of rice and we had it for lunch and dinner and even had extra to share some with Maria, our part-time helper.

We love the curry sauce that 'banjir' (flood) our rice. The thick curry sauce gives the rice a very delicious aroma and flavor.  With the delicious curry sauce flooding the rice, it is so easy to end up overeating the rice!

Funky Summer Tops For 2020

As the days get longer and warmer, our sleeves usually get shorter or better yet, sleeveless.  Reach for chiffon, ice cotton, thin cotton and sheer tanks and sleeveless tops online and you’ll be able to rely on them as the perfect layering device this time of the year.

Here are some of my favorite summer top picks to beat the sweltering summer temperatures.

Round neck soft sleeveless top from Ninacloak at no more than $10. Accesorize this simple top with a long statement necklace or long beaded necklace to add interest, colors and glam to your outfit.

You’ve most likely seen this Summer Polyster Blend Women Round Neck Ruched Plain Spaghetti Strap top all over your Insta feed.  It's available at Ninacloak at only $12.96 and it comes in 6 colors and available from size S to 6XL.  It pairs well with smart trousers and a jacket for a smart casual look at the office. Or pair it with leggings or jeggings for a more casual attire.

You could get away with this Spring Summer Chiffon Women Tie Collar Polka Dot Long Sleeve Blouse from Ninacloak for work at only $12.15. What a steal!

V-necklines are very popular with women and I love tops and dresses with V-necklines. In addition to looking alluring and feeling breezy, they tend to create a visually flattering effect on women with the following body type modifiers: large bust, short neck, petite height and short waist.  V-necklines also create a visually longer and slimmer face shape on women with a round and chubby face. I love this Summer Polyester Women V-Neck Striped Short Sleeve Blouse from Ninacloak at $14.17.

This t-shirt of a cat wearing a face mask is too cute. It certainly matches our current fashion of donning on a face mask whenever we are out and on the go! Check out more cool t-shirts and tops at prices you'll love at Ninacloak.

Now that you have some ideas on what tops to wear and where to get them, it’s time to think about swimwear for this summer πŸ˜‰

RMCO Day 29 & 30 (Wednesday 8 July & Thursday 9 July 2020)

Wednesday, 8 July 2020

Today I took Cass to the National Registration Department branch at UTC KL (Pudu) to get her 12-year old IC done.  My baby girl is no longer a baby girl but an adolescent.  Just two years ago I was at the same place with Sherilyn to get her IC done. And next year I will be here again when Alycia turns 18 and requires a change in her IC.  This is not the kind of place that I fancy going to but it's my responsibility as a parent that I have to be here.

Yesterday I went to the JPN website to find out what the MCO SOP is and whether there are changes in the operating hours. I found out that I had to book an appointment online for My Kad application. I double checked by making a call to JPN and was told to make an online booking / appointment, which I did.

When I was at JPN today, I was told by the staff that no appointment is needed for the UTC Pudu branch. However an online Janji Temu/ booking/appointment is required for other JPN branches during the MCO period.  There was a long queue outside JPN and I was told by the Rela staff controlling the crowd that I need not have to queue. I could enter JPN at my appointment time @ 11:40 a.m. but I still had to wait outside JPN and still had to  get a number ticket once I was inside and still had to wait for my turn! So it made no difference whether I made an online appointment or go in as a walk-in customer as I still had to wait for 1.5 hours.  Cass commented that had we queued up, it would have been faster for us to go inside and get our ticket number.

Nonetheless, the waiting wasn't that long. All in, we were done within 2 hours. I have to be back at the JPN office to collect Cass' My Kad tomorrow. And the penalty for our 3 months delay in applying for the IC is waived because of the MCO.

During the MCO, the number of customers that are allowed inside the office is limited and the remaining customers have to queue outside.  Crowd control is managed by a Rela member.

Thursday, 9 July 2020
I left the house at 9:30 a.m. with hubs for UTC Pudu to collect Cass' new IC.   Collection is always very fast.  Today I managed to collect the new IC in 4 minutes.  After IC collection, hubs dropped me at the famous Shin Kee beef noodles @ Petaling Street to get takeaway beef noodles.

Today is day 3 of Sherilyn on dental braces. She's still struggling to chew her food and still learning to adapt to eating with wires strapped to her teeth.  She's way better than Alycia who I remember kept pestering me to buy ice-cream and yoghurt for her meals during the initial 2 weeks when she first wore braces.  When we were at the mall, she would sit and watch us eat and then she would segued into Snowflakes or Kakigori to enjoy her fruit flavored shaved ice.

Sherilyn has been whipping up chawan mushi for herself for the past two days. She could only swallow down soft food with limited chewing, thus chawan mushi is the most ideal food for her. And she dishes out really delish chawan mushi with a 10/10 perfect texture, like the real deal from Japanese restaurants.  She adds Japanese chicken stock boiled with shiitake mushrooms, bonito flakes and Chinese cooking wine into the egg mixture.

Today aunt Connie, the girls' grand aunt came to visit us and gave us her home-baked Basque Burnt Cheesecake.  This unique looking cheesecake with a burnt top has been trending on social media recently. The cheesecake is creamy and light with a caramelized surface.  The cake will be another food that Sherilyn could gobble down effortlessly and she's so happy that the cheesecake came at such an opportune time for her.

Cass's teacher briefed the class via Zoom on school reopening on 15 July and the SOP that all the students have to adhere to strictly.

And Cass attending online art and craft class. The assignment is a tie and dye piece (using wet tissue) with poster color paint.

RMCO Day 27 & 28 ~ Monday & Tuesday, 6 & 7 July 2020

Monday, 6 July 2020

Someone made me SO SO SO FRIGGING MAD the entire day today that I wanted to strangle her and disown her. I was SO hopping mad I am quite certain a few days of my life were snatched away from me today.  Is this what motherhood is all about? Or is this what failure as a mom is all about I wonder?! I was so enraged and exhausted with her same shitty behavior that I just felt like bursting out and cry 😭

Even my favorite king of fruit did  not manage to prick away the seething anger in me.   Hubs paid RM150 for 3 boxes of 'kampung' D24 durians to support his supplier/friend who's now selling durians.  His friend's canopies, tables and chairs rental business has been badly affected since the start of the MCO and is now turning to selling durians while waiting for events and parties to resurface again.  A school bus driver whom I know has also taken the same route.

These durians are one of the best I've eaten thus far.  The durians did not cause a stinging sensation in my throat or a sore throat or a tummy ache after I'd walloped 4 huge seeds of durians.  The Musang King species, known for being heavily sprayed with insecticide and pesticide, causes me sore throat and stomach discomfort every time I consume it. Thus, I now avoid Musang King and all premium species as my sensitive throat is allergic to some chemicals in these durians.

Our dinner: organic tofu with minced chicken, steamed golden pomfret with organic miso and ginger + minced garlic, stir-fried organic sweet potato leaves and pan-fried otak-otak.

Tuesday, 7 July 2020

Today is the 7.7 Mid-Year Sales which means that there is a bunch of great deals to grab from online shopping platforms! I'd already entered the item that I wanted to buy from Lazada into my shopping cart a week ago and this morning when I was on the throne, I paid for the item on my phone and saved RM12!  I'm a multi-tasker - I don't just sit on the throne and discard stuff, I always ensure that I do something useful like reading, replying to messages and paying for my online shopping stuff 😁

Here's another beautiful shot of sunrise taken at 7 a.m. today.

Last week, I found out that there were 2 more casulties in our neighborhood arising from the pandemic and MCO.  The pet shop next to Cass' music school and the optical shop that we used to go to had closed down πŸ˜ͺ😩  With the closure of the pet shop, Cass and I will have no more pet therapy after her piano class on Saturdays.  We are terribly saddened to hear of the pet shop closure.

RMCO Day 24 ~ Friday, 3 July 2020

This morning I walked to the nearby shops to buy breakfast.  Hubs took my car (and it's pink with a pink bunny nose on the front of the car πŸ˜†) as his car was admitted into the car repair shop a week ago for a defective gear box.   Just a month ago, my car was discharged after spending a month at the same repair shop.  The cost of his car repair is a heart-stabbing RM5k while mine was RM2.5k.  When it rain, it pours really hard sometimes 😭😭

These days, I don't even have to bring my purse out when I go shopping. Almost all my transactions are made via eWallet contactless payment -- either Boost or Touch N Go and I have both.  Some of the hawkers and roadside food vendors have Boost and Touch N Go.  Even the small-time kuih seller and fruits vendor at our neighborhood have Boost and Touch N Go payment service but of course we have to scan their codes as they cannot afford a scanning machine.   The economy noodles that I bought at a coffee shop this morning was paid via Touch N Go.

We had organic sweet corns and sweet potatoes (purple and yellow variety) for lunch and had an early dinner of noodles with fish balls.

At the moment, Alycia has to go to school only twice a week and for the rest of the days, it's online learning from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m..  Thus, she's always in her room and will only be out of her room for a short lunch break.  She seems to be really busy either attending online class or completing homework as teaching is in express speed to finish the syllabus before the 5th formers sit for their SPM exam from 6 January through 9 February next year - the first time ever that SPM is held in January.  Our 3 girls are due to sit for major government exams this year but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, PT3 and UPSR are scratched out while SPM is postponed to early 2021. These kids who don't have to sit for major exams in 2020 are now known as the Corona batch kids 😐, the first in Malaysia history.

Say Hello To The Silhouette You Desire

Shapewear is everything you need to sculpt and support your body, without feeling restricted,  to achieve a more desirable and attractive figure. Shapewear undergarments like waist shaper and tummy control body shaper are designed to impermanently alter the wearer's body shape and they also work to provide support to the bust and back area.

While many people are aware of shapewear, they often lack knowledge about what shapewear can be used for.
