Super Smoothies

I'm back at whipping up smoothies again after a hiatus of several months 😀🍹

What I like about making smoothies for the girls is that I can hide raw greens and superfoods like goji berries and almonds in it by blending and mixing them into a wonderful and refreshing drink that the girls wouldn't even be able to tell 😊

Besides, when we drink smoothies, we get our daily allowance of fruits and vegetables. Consuming the daily recommendations of fruits and vegetables can be a challenge. Blending a couple of servings of each into a smoothie helps ensure you meet your body’s daily nutritional needs.

Smoothies are also great for  our digestion. Nobody wants to experience constipation or indigestion. Let your blender help you “chew” your fruits and vegetables and ease the burden on your digestive system while you simultaneously consume plenty of dietary fiber to ensure excellent digestion.

Last week, I whipped up a concoction of  super smoothies.

Below: apple, orange, pineapple, lemon, raw honey and organic lettuce smoothie.  I only use organic greens for smoothies. Cass liked the smoothie so much that she gulped down 2 large jars of it.

I LOVE watching how the colorful fruits and veggies slowly turn into a beautiful hue of green when greens are added while they whiz in my Blendtec blender.

Below: mango, orange, lemon and alfalfa + broccoli sprouts smoothie.

Below: apple, orange, passion fruit, lemon, raw honey and organic goji berry smoothie.

I just love the vibrant orangy red color of the smoothie when goji berries are added.  My girls never like goji berries when used in cooking. They will single out all the goji berries from soups and chicken dishes. But when mixed into a smoothie, they have absolutely no issues with these super berries.

The number of healthy ingredients available for smoothies is practically limitless. After your basic fruits and vegetables, you can add an array of various spices, herbs, super foods and other health foods. The possibilities and combinations are endless. I love making smoothies for my family.

Fruit Smoothies

Fruit smoothies that I made over the past 2 days...

Orange + green apple + persimmon + USA black grapes.

Korean Shingo pear + strawberry + orange + coconut water.

Smoothies are sweet, refreshing and are a perfect thirst quencher. But if you are diabetic, go slow on fruits smoothies, especially on fruit juices (as juices are sans the fiber) as they spike up your blood sugar level quickly.  The fruit smoothies that I prepare are only for the kiddos. The hubs and I don't drink them often, I only eat my fruits.  Our girls love their daily smoothie-of-the-day. They are lazy to chew their fruits (yes, can you believe it?!), so swallowing a variety of fruits everyday in the form of smoothie ensures that they get their daily dose of vitamin C and fiber.

Thursday Breakfast - 20 August 2015

My brekkie this morning...

Green smoothie made by the mil consisting of baby bitter gourd, celery, cucumbers, green bell pepper and green apples. Not exactly my kind of smoothie but it's bursting with phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals and disease-fighting compounds. So what the heck, I took a deep breath and gulped this thick foamy green stuff down in a jiffy, BURPS!

Chilled 'tau kok lup' (sauteed long beans with garlic, carrots, prawns, pork, preserved radish and toasted peanuts), which was leftover from lunch and dinner yesterday. It's my favorite and I really don't mind having it in 3 meals straight! It's high in fiber, protein, low in carb and really delish too!

What's your breakfast today?

HFM's Awesome Rawsome Lunch - 12 March 2015

My lunch yesterday - 11 March 2015, fit for a health freak...

A head of Oakleaf Green veggie with cherry tomatoes, toasted walnuts, pecans, almonds. macadamia, Korean seaweed, fried shallots, toasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of sesame dressing.  Also whacked 3 pieces of braised pork ribs, which were from dinner the day before.

Love this roasted laver (seaweed) from Korea - it's packed with so much crunchiness, natural flavor and goodness.  I can even eat my salads sans any dressing if I have this seaweed and a handful of flavorful fried shallots on them.

Orange and mango smoothie...

For breakfast, I ate 2 free-range chicken eggs to boost my iron production (I am anemic), a cup of homemade butter pecan cupcake and a piece of toasted wholemeal bread with homemade walnut-pecan-almond-macadamia nut jam.

Papaya Strawberry Grapes Smoothie

I had a large papaya sitting in my fridge and decided to try out a new smoothie with this wonderful nutrients-packed fruit.

As I was worried that my girls would find the taste of pure papaya not too flavorsome if whipped into a thick smoothie, I added some sweet strawberries to mask the taste of papaya and added some purple grapes to make the color more vibrant.   I also added some chia seeds and ice cubes before whirling this into a very refreshing and soothing healthy smoothie.
