Cuddles, Laughter, and Fake Eyelashes

Whenever Sherilyn comes home, her first instinct is always the same—she goes on a mission to find our beloved cat, Haru. Without fail, she picks her up and gives her the biggest cuddle, kisses her, and squeezing her tight as though Haru were a plush toy. Poor Haru, being the independent and non-affectionate cat that she is, barely tolerates this for a minute before squeezing her way out of Sherilyn’s arms. Haru has never been a fan of extended cuddles, preferring her personal space and short moments of affection. But Sherilyn, filled with love and excitement after a long day, can never resist showering her with more attention than Haru can handle.

Last week, after Sherilyn's win at the Asia Open Dance Championship, where she secured the gold medal in the modern contemporary (solo) event for her age group, she came home in an exceptionally good mood. She removed her fake eyelashes from the competition and, still buzzing with happiness, decided to goof around with Haru. In her playful state, she attached the fake eyelashes to Haru’s eyes, and we both burst into laughter at the sight. Haru looked absolutely hilarious, but her expression clearly showed her confusion at being the center of this little joke. I felt bad for her after a few minutes and asked Sherilyn to quickly take the fake eyelashes off.

Despite our antics, Haru remains the heart of our home. Her calm presence and adorable loafing around the house bring us so much joy, even when we’re in a bad mood. There are days when I find myself feeling frustrated or upset about something, but Haru’s quiet charm and comforting aura instantly ease the tension. It’s as if she knows exactly how to diffuse my anger and calm my nerves.

Haru may not love long cuddles or too much fuss, but she brings a special kind of warmth into our lives.  We can’t help but spoil our little fur baby, even when it means accidentally subjecting her to a few minutes of fake eyelash drama! 😆

We love Haru so much, and it’s a joy to have her loafing around the house, being her quiet, intelligent self. She's the little glue that keeps our home filled with laughter and peace.

Still groggy from being woken up from her sleep, Haru didn't resist the silly fake eyelashes stuck to her eyes by her sister.

Her Midas Touch

I could not believe it when her Midas Touch damaged the ceiling-mounted clothes hanger at our balcony. It was starting to rain and I told her to get the clothes in. I just had a hunch that she may snap the delicate wires of the clothes hanger by moving the handle clockwise and anti-clockwise non-stop to see what's going happen to the wires holding over 20kg of weight. Knowing this girl too well, I just knew she would not obediently collect the clothes ONLY. She always does extra... of mischief. She loves to try new things without thinking or fearing of the consequences. We had just replaced the clothes hanger and that cost us over RM500. True enough, not even 5 minutes later, she ran in and reported to me that the hanger was spoilt! I ran out to check the clothes hanger. The wires turned flimsy and the handle could no longer move the hanger up nor down. I was terribly upset as we would have to fork out another RM500+ to replace the hangers. And I felt like strangling that rascal. Thankfully hubs is a handyman and he managed to salvage the hanger, albeit the hanger is now acting strangely.

This is not the first time she had created problem whenever I asked her to help out. Just last week, she dropped a bowl with spring onions that I had just chopped all on the kitchen floor. After chopping the spring onions, the phone rang. She passed me the phone. As my hands were wet and stinky, I told her to hold the bowl of spring onions for me and warned her with these words "please hold for me and DO NOT drop it ok "... just after I said the words OK, the bowl just slipped out from her butter fingers!! The chopped spring onions were scattered everywhere! All my effort of washing, soaking and chopping the onions went into the bin again! Just a day earlier, she also dropped a bowl of chopped onions. I could not believe this rascal!!

This rascal has now earned a nickname Butter Fingers and Miss Clumsypot in the family. She spills drinks and drops things all the time. I hope she will outgrown this clumsiness in her, just like how she took 6.5 years to kick off her thumb-sucking habit. God please help her and me!

Wacky Taste Buds Too

Another wacky moment from my princess wannabe. Yesterday during breakfast, while Alycia dunked Oreos into her cup of cold fresh milk, Sherilyn followed suit BUT she dunked the Oreos into her mug of Manuka honey! I would never put such stuff into my mouth. Is that even palatable? NO, it does not look palatable at all to me but this wacky princess claimed that her combo tasted good *rolls eyes"! Sherilyn is always going against the grain. Well, I'm hoping that this girl will stand out from the crowd and will make me proud of her in future.

Wacky Fashion Sense

My princess wannabe has a wacky fashion sense at times. Today, she made my jaw drop when she wore her new leopard print skirt under a sexy short beach dress. I told her that if she wore that outfit to the hotel for her ballet concert, everyone will call her CRAZY! How could she have thought of wearing a skirt under a dress? That's fashion nightmare! And she told me "I don't care!" I screamed at her and ordered that she changed her clothes into something more decent, which she did reluctantly. Another shake head and hair pulling moment with this pig-headed girl of mine, sigh...

Kids Nap The Darndest Ways

Here's another trademark of rascal #2:

She always falls asleep whenever she's told to eat food that she does not fancy like fruits, veggie or drinking soup. And if she ever naps in the afternoon, it's not a good sign. It's a sign that a fever or a throat infection is looming and I am 99% right all the time. If she's well, there is no way I can force her to take even a short nap in the afternoon.

Kids Sleep The Darndest Ways

Do you have a child who can sleep just about anywhere and at anytime? I have 3 and the champion is rascal #2. She can even fall sleep while eating and drinking and it happens all the time!

All hell will break loose if I jolt her up from her sleep to get her to brush her teeth and shower... and I hate doing this. Well, that's part and parcel of motherhood. Whether you like it or not, you have to do it. Just pull the bull by the horns!

The Hilarious Fall Of Sherilyn's 2nd Tooth

Remember my earlier post on the hilarious fall of Sherilyn's first tooth? About 1.5 weeks later, her 2nd shaky bottom tooth dropped and I tell yer, it was equally hilarious.

That night, Sherilyn had fallen asleep on the couch. When I dragged her to the bathroom to shower her, she was whining and sulking away. When I brushed her teeth, she whined even more and was throwing a huge tantrum... which made my temper hit the roof. After brushing her teeth, she turned to me abruptly and said this "mummy, what happened to my tooth???"... and opened her mouth wide. When I looked at her mouth, I burst out laughing as the shaky tooth at the bottom was gone!!! I told her that her tooth had dropped and she exploded... bawling away like a baby. She blamed me for brushing her teeth too hard to the point of 'loosing' her tooth. I then searched everywhere on the bathroom floor for her tooth. Damn it that the color of her tooth and the bathroom floor was almost the same, making it hard for us to find her tooth. What more with all the suds on the floor, we could barely find the tooth. I asked her if she had swallowed the tooth and she said NO and bawled even louder... and blamed me to no end.

After a 5-minute search, I finally found her tooth at one corner of the bathroom LOL!! My cry baby was really angry and crabby as I had woken her up from her sleep and dragged her to the bathroom to shower and caused her tooth to drop. After she had calmed down, I told her that she should be happy that the tooth had finally dropped as she had been complaining that the loose tooth was hurting her gum. Now, there's no more pain and she can eat comfortably again.

Mummy, I Found A Boy To Marry

Alycia and Sherilyn have always been telling me that they do not want to get married when they grow up. Time and again Sherilyn will reinforce her decision of not wanting to get married. She always tells me this "I don't want to get married because I don't want the doctor to cut my stomach to take the baby out" LOL!

But today she came home from school and stunned me with this :

Sher - mummy, you want me to marry a clever and rich boy is it? I already found a boy to marry.

Me - who???

Sher - Ricky Kiu

Me - who???

Sher - Ricky Kiu!!

Me - is he your classmate?

Sher - yup. But Berlyn said she wants to marry him too, so I cannot marry him.
(Berlyn is Sherilyn's best friend)

Me - Oh! So did you fight with Berlyn over Ricky?

Sher - no. Never mind, I will find another boy to marry lar....

See how naive kids can be with their thoughts and words. She made my day today :D

Next To Me

When it comes to getting rascal #2 do her homework or Kumon Math, I can never leave her out of my sight, not even for a minute for this rascal will be up to 101 tricks. She will discreetly put her coloring books or sticker books under her homework book or Kumon book. The second I turn my back on her, this fella will bring her fun book up. Or she would have a pair of scissors and some colored papers next to her, all geared up to cut them into her creations the second I turn my back on her. That's why each time she does her homework, I'll make sure that she is seated next to me and within my radar!! But I must also give Sheriyn lots of credit for her creativity and novelty. She will excel in a field that requires creativity and imagination. She has loads of them.

Her chair next to mine and almost touching my chair. I can never let her seat behind me or nothing gets done!

Always Wants To Be Different

Rascal #2 always wants to be different from the rest. On regular school-going days, she would dilly dally and refuse to go to school. On the last day of school last Friday where she was not required to wear her school uniform, she wore her school uniform after her shower upon returning from school... and wore the school uniform to attend her Mandarin tuition class!

On one afternoon last week, she worn her Disney sunnies during lunch time. See how silly she looks here...

Check out the half sliced lime on her cup. She pinched that lime from me when I was making lime juice and stuck the lime to her cup! I guess she's pretending she's having a tropical lunch by the beach haha!

Kids Ask The Darnest Questions

Yesterday night, Sherilyn asked me this when she was in the bathroom:

S - mummy, has daddy seen your buttock?

Me - (shocked and thought she had seen us errrrm...hehe) why are you asking such a question??

S - hehehehe (giggled cheekily)...

Me - why are you asking such a question huh??

S - but Baby has seen daddy's buttock. That day when daddy was changing in the room, Baby wanted to see daddy's buttock. She was peeping and then saw daddy's buttock heheheh....

Me - I'm asking you why you asked me whether daddy has seen my buttock?

S - no lar, hehehehe (and giggled the question off cheekily).

Hmmm, I wonder why she asked me that question!!

Sherilyn's Antics

These are some of the things that only rascal #2 will do :

She finds it amusing and appetizing to eat porridge with her hands.... novelty always attracts this fella who likes to try new things! Many times, she will scratch her head with her OILY hands, eeeeesssshhhh!!

And on some days, she would even doze off at the dining table. This fella, it's a challenge to get her to nap in the afternoon and by 8:30pm, her batteries would be almost konked out. Plus getting her to eat rice + dishes (which is something that does not whet her appetite), that would surely bore her and induce her to lalaland....

Things That Only Sherilyn Will Do!

One of the things that only rascal #2 will do is to eat with her hands and mind you, it's not the refined hand-eating method like some people do. She would place the rice on her palm, then squeeze the rice as if she were making sushi or preparing dough... and after playing with her rice + dishes, she will put the yucky looking food into her mouth. This fler is known to take hours to finish her food but with food-playing, she can finish her food in a jiffy and she enjoys it too! Are all hyper-active and inquisitive kids like this?

And she even eats her porridge with her hands! GAWD... I was shocked to see her do it and this, I reprimanded her!

Rascal #2 eating rice with turmeric chicken. Can you see how terribly messy it is? And the worst part is she will scratch her head with her oily hands and send me yelling at her.. That's why she needs to shampoo her hair twice a day.

Kek sei ngor mou you say??!

Novel Way Of Eating Lunch

Baby and Sherilyn decided to do something new over lunch time. Instead of eating at the dining table, Sherilyn brought her food to the kitchen, pulled a chair there and sat there to eat. Baby the copy cat followed suit and both of them kwai kwai finished their food in the kitchen!

But they created a mess - food was dropped everywhere on the floor and I made #2 clean up the mess haha!

Check out the cute Minnie Mouse swimming cap Baby is wearing here. Sometimes I put the cap on her head so that she will not dirty her hair with her oily hands muahahahahahaha!

Sherilyn Naps The Weirdest Ways

Sherilyn, this girl of mine is super hard-headed. During the day she would refuse to nap. Even when threatened by the cane, she just won't take her nap, citing that she is not sleepy at all. If she ever naps in the afternoon, I would need to check her temperature to see if she has a fever or ask her if she's not well.

By dinner time, her batteries would be almost flat. At 8:30pm every night on end, I will say the same thing to her "quickly finish your food and drink your soup!!" She will be the last to finish her food every night. On some nights, this is what happens:

Dozing off while drinking her soup....

and I think she has perfect balancing skill....

Random Pix

Pix taken 2 Saturdays ago. I had wanted to jog in the morning before the girls woke up but just as I was about to leave the house, shiats.... my 3 monkeys got up... so I ended up bringing all of them to the park and made everyone jog 3 big rounds in the park.

My princess wannabe insisted that she had to bring along her Minnie Mouse brolly... and the brolly caused a brawl and tuck of war between she and Baby, sigh!

But they patched up and played with each other later....

My kids can really doze off so easily in the most awkward of positions, anywhere, anytime!

Angry With Jie Jie

Alycia and Sherilyn fights everyday, every single day over every single issue. I wonder why... coz Alycia is so patient and loving to Baby but is not the same with Sherilyn. Why I wonder!?? Each time they fight, I get headaches coz it's like a boys fight.

After a fallout one evening, Sherilyn refused to sit next to her jie jie at the dining table for dinner. And that's what she did:

This little fella has 'character', is pig-headed, bossy and demanding. I think she would turn out fine in future but for now, I'll just have to deal with her temper tantrums and overcome her dilly-dallying habit before she goes to Primary 1 in 1.5 years time.

Baby's Nightly Routine

I think I will have no problem weaning Baby off co-sleeping with hubby and I. Baby simply adores going to her 2 jie jies' bedroom to play and pretend sleeping with them. Her nightly must-do routine is that she will climb up her jie jies' bed, then play with them and pretend to sleep with them... with blanky covering her body from neck to toe and she would pretend to close her eyes. When I say nite nite and bye-bye to her, she will reciprocate and say the same to me. When I say "sleep with jie jie ok, tonight don't drink mummy's milk milk ok?", she will say "OK" and give me a cheeky grin.

Guess what Baby and rascal #2 were doing here?

They were singing. Rascal #2 is the singer of the family. At home, you will hear her sing and yak all day! And I think this passion of hers has rubbed off on Baby and she's another avid singer, who can sing quite well, though she is 2 months shy of her 2nd birthday.

Alycia was so dead tired that she had fallen asleep and could even sleep so soundly despite the noisy singing from her 2 sisters! Since she started Standard 1, she would be so jaded and sleepy that she would knock off by 9pm every night.

Such a heartwarming sight seeing Baby and rascal #2 in bed together lovingly, singing together.
