Mandarin Class
I really wanted to find out the root of the reason why Alycia has been puking each morning before she went to school. Yesterday evening I asked Alycia if she liked attending her extra Mandarin class and she told me NO, a BIG NO. Aahhh...... could this could be one of the reasons why she puked as she was trying to avoid attending Mandarin class? Mandarin to her is quite like a foreign language for she only gets to practise conversing in it when my mil stays with us and that's like 3 times in a year. When I asked her further if she likes her regular classes, she nodded and said yes. She also said she likes her teachers and friends. There is even a fat boy who likes her and keeps tickling her and gives her stickers. So I deduce that Alycia feels stress up when she attends a foreign language class. Maybe I should consider pulling her out from the Mandarin class since I don't even intend to send her to a chinese medium school in future.

No, don't pull her out. Both you and her will regret in the future, just like how I am regretting now for making a fuss each time my dad dropped me off for my class. It's always a big plus to know an extra language! Maybe you can buy Mandarin CDs or books and start coaching her from home. Can learn together with her =) and of course involve Sherilyn too.....=)
yes, I agreed with jeffrey, my neighbor always complain his mum not let him study mandarin since small, and now his work mostly deal with Taiwanese, he feel so regret not learning mandarin.
actually got some mandarin song cd very easy to learn, you should try it at home.
Shir Lin & Vivian...I'll let Aly continue her Mandarin class till the end of the school term and see how her progress is. I'll make a decision from there. Tks 4 d suggestions.
Poor gal. I know how stressful it is to be in a class she's not used to. My mom put me in Ave Maria when I was in Std One and I remember feeling scared and unhappy going to school everyday. In the end, my mom took me out of Ave Maria :D I was so happy :D With Alycia, it's a good idea to let her stay on first and see how it goes since she's still in kindy :D
Hi! Aly's oni 3+. If she dislike it to the extent of puking every morning, try to ascertain the cause n do something abt it. At such young age, there's no point in pressuring her to learn something. Anyway, it's jes my opinion. I'm sure u know wat's best for her.
another option will be excluding her from the mandarin class in school. Instead, put her into some "mandarin speaking" outside activities u can find. This way, she can enjoy learning mandarin without having fear to go to school.
duh, that's the problem with kids nowadays. chinese became a 'foreign language' for a chinese kid. how sad.
nevermind, i think you should let her go on with the class. else she might think quittin is the easy way out. no harm learnin an extra language, apa lagi own language.
Mandarin also causes child stress to both my children. they don't like to attend chinese school next year. But i still insist, it's a big factor learning to speak Mandarin when they go find a job later. At least that's how it works here in the Philippines.
Girlie... i never knew that in Phillipines, Mandarin speaking Phillipinas are given so much priority, of all languages, Mandarin!
