J.Co Doughnuts

The gals and I had a real sweet surprise from daddy just a moment ago when he brought home a big box of J.Co doughnuts. Daddy had a function at Pavillion today and since he was there, he took the opportunity to buy a dozen of the supposedly best tasting doughnuts in the world which have been causing a ridiculously long queue at the J.Co Doughnuts store in Pavillion since its opening recently.

So how do we like it? Since I'm not much of a doughnut lover and don't really fancy sweet stuff, I find them too sweet and jelak. Most of the doughnuts have sweet cream and icing on top and some come with coffee filling and cream filling. Nevertheless, the texture of the dough is very soft. Of the 12 flavors that daddy had bought, I like the plain one best but it is still too sweet for my liking. As for the gals, it's their first time sinking their teeth into doughnuts and naturally they loved them to bits. They were eating those doughnuts like some ravenous wolves devouring on some tasty meat!


Within 20 minutes, the doughnuts were all gobbled up by all of us including our maid. Sherilyn even licked her knuckles clean!

Sherilyn Is Going To School Next Year

Daddy has always wanted to let Sherilyn attend pre-school but I'm the one who's not so keen. First, I am worried that she might fall sick just as frequently as Alycia. Secondly, I can teach her at home and since she's very much a social butterfly, she doesn't need as much exposure to people as Alycia. Thirdly, it's costly, i.e. at around RM300 per month on average. But since she loves school so much and has been following daddy to bring Alycia to school every single morning, daddy feels that his second princess should be given equal opportunity as the first princess to attend school.

Today, I was really taken by surprise when he told the principal that he is registering Sherilyn for school in January next year. He even asked the principal to let Sherilyn try on the school uniform. So I guess next year, both my gals will be attending school. Sherilyn was grinning from cheek to cheek trying on the uniform and she was hopping and skipping in the school with joy and calling out to the teachers.

Alycia's Progress In School

Met up with Alycia's class teacher today. On the overall, Alycia has improved, especially in her social interaction skills. When she first joined the class, she was very reserved and quiet and hardly spoke a word. Though she's still on the quiet side and seldom participates in group activities, she has nevertheless learnt to mingle around with her classmates and asked her teachers questions too.

Academically, she is still lagging behind her peers as she has only attended class less than 3 months this year. Most of her peers started preschool at age 2 and Alycia is the youngest in the class being a December child. We pulled her out from school in February when she kept falling sick. She only resumed school in early September and did not consistently go to school as she also fell ill within these 2.5 months. She still cannot write the letters of the alphabet and numbers on her own without the help of dotted lines and she still can't read a book independently. Nevertheless, she can recognize almost all the letters of the alphabet (capital and small letters) and numbers from 1 through 10. She really needs some catching up.

Parents-Teachers Day

Today is Alycia's pre-school parents-teachers day and I'm about to bring Alycia to school to meet her teachers. I wonder what they have to say about Alycia. Tomorrow there will be a children's day party at her school. Will be going to the bakery to get some chiffon cakes later.

I Wish There Were More Such Days

On days when Sherilyn is in a mood to draw and write, she can sit at her writing desk for a good half an hour without tugging at me and bothering me with her whims. She will draw, squiggle and do letter or number tracing. She can really be independent at times. I wish there were more days like this so that I can concentrate in my work on the computer and accomplish more in the mornings before Alycia gets home from school.

Food Review - Gu Yue Tien Chinese Cuisine

Almond milk with 'Suet Kap' (frogs' intestines)

These are the desserts that we had after dinner at Gu Yue Tien Chinese Cuisine Restaurant @ Chulan Square last week. The food at this restaurant were really good and I really enjoyed the almond milk suet kap as it wasn't too sweet and the almond milk was rich and creamy.

The double-boiled pigs' stomach soup, black bean chicken soup as well as the dishes from the main course were very tasty too. Check out my other blog to read the food review of this restaurant.

Her Eyes Are Bigger Than Her Tummy

My Spitty Spat hates meat and bland food but when it comes to bread, biscuits, crackers, cakes, keropok and ice-cream, she can eat them all without any fuss in a flash. Here, she's eating a butter bun. She loves it so much that she wants the container of buns to be right in front of her and she's even pointing to them, telling me that she wants more. If only she could eat her proper meals just like this.

Bovril Yee Meen

This is another very tasty and simple noodles dish that I have created using Bovril. Alycia and Sherilyn are crazy over this yee meen. Just blanch the yee meen and vegetables, strain them and leave aside. Then, stir fry some minced chicken meat with shallots and garlic. Add in some soy sauce, pepper and add in 1 tablespoon of Bovril (pre-dissolve it in 1 bowl of hot soup or hot water). Add the meat sauce onto the noodles and they are ready to be served. Quite a simple and very tasty dish.

Sooooo soooour!

I was cutting a starfruit to eat yesterday when Sherilyn saw me and asked for some. She took a bite on a slice and though it was quite sour, she liked it anyway and asked for more, and more. She was worried I would take the sliced starfruit away from her and she clutched on to a slice on each of her hand as she munched and grimaced away as the sour juice of the starfruit touched her mouth.

Peek-a-boo!

During the Deepavali holidays last week, Alycia didn't have to wake up early for school. It was way past 9am on that day and Sherilyn had woken up early and was already downstairs having her breakfast. Alycia was sleeping alone upstairs. When I went up to check on her at around 10am, she had apparently woken up for a long time already and was happily playing alone in her room as seen in the picture here. I had peeped in to see what she was doing and she was really taken by surprise to see me snapping a picture of her.

Feeling Thirsty And Dry

Apart from having really dry and peeling skin, today I'm feeling really thirsty and I've been gulping down mugs and mugs of plain water, yet the thirst is insatiable. I don't think I am dehydrated as I drink like a camel, though now I don't drink as much as I used to before I was preggers. Not only is my skin peeling, my lips are also cracking. When I met my friend this morning as I was walking to the van to buy pork and vege, she too noticed that I look dry. Gosh, I look aweful - skin peeling and lips cracking. I look like a sick cat. Wonder what's wrong with me, sei lor!! Hope not gestational diabetes or some serious ailments.

More Souvenirs

These Disney and Hello Kitty souvenirs for Alycia and Sherilyn were from sil. She got the pink Minnie Mouse bag and Hello Kitty & My Melody hankies when she went to Japan for a vacation recently. I think the hankies are too pretty and delicate to be used. The colors will surely fade and the cloth will surely fray after a few spins in the washing machine. I think I'll just let them remain as keepsakes.

My New Golden Goose

Here's my new desktop PC. Everything is new except for my Dell monitor which is still in good working condition. The new CPU has 250GB of memory as compared to 80GB with my old CPU. This CPU even has a transparent plastic panel that enables me to look at everything from the motherboard to the wires inside the CPU. Hubby's friend came at 11:30pm last night to help set up the PC and to transfer all the data from my old CPU to the new one. We only got to sleep at 1:30am.

Homemade Fried Rice

We had 'multi-ingredients fried rice' today, my creation of course. Let me tell you what ingredients were used to fry the rice :

1. Fresh sweet corns
2. Chopped choy sum
3. 2 eggs
4. Diced chicken meat
5. Diced sausages
6. Vegetarian 'chak thai' (made of bean curd sheet with chillies)
7. Garlic
8. Shallots
9. Sesame seed oil
10. Pepper
11. Lea & Perrin sauce
12. Soy sauce

There were 2 batches of fried rice - one is with the spicy vegetarian bean curd sheet and one without for the kids. The gals loved the fried rice and licked the platter clean!

I'm Having A New Computer!

After encountering endless problems with my old junk desktop PC, I've finally decided to buy a new one from the money that I'd earned from my paid posts. I'd sought hubby's help to get me a new one and today, he got one costing RM2,000. I've just finished backing up all the documents from my D Drive and desktop to My Documents and hubby's friend who's a computer specialist will come to our house at 12:30am to help me transfer all the data from my old computer to the new one. I'm praying that the transfer of data and the setting up of the new computer will go smoothly without any problems. I just can't afford any downtime as I have more than 10 tasks due for submission within the next 2 days.

Oh No Alycia, You Peed In Your Pants Again!

She just did, while taking her afternoon nap. I had asked her twice during her nap if she'd like to wee wee but she just shoke her head. All of a sudden, she told me "mummy, i want to wee wee". I told her to quick hurry to the toilet but she told me "i already wee wee here". Oh no, Alycia, you peed in your pants again but luckily, she realized it fast enough and managed to hold the remaning pee. I quickly brought her to the toilet to let her finish off emptying her bladder. Luckily this time the pee was not heavy enough to soak the mattress, pillows and bolster and the plastic mat beneath her prevented the pee from wetting the bedsheet. Phew... else there will be another round of major laundry session for my maid tomorrow.

Do You Get Pissed Off With The Ads?

I've been writing a lot of ads in my blog lately. Frankly, do you get pissed off with them? I really hope having these paid posts in my blog will not stop you from coming to my blog again. I'm trying my best to balance the number of personal posts in my blog too.

What's For Dinner Tonight

Hubby bought a pack of shitake mushrooms yesterday. I'm going to ask my maid to stir fry them with some minced chicken meat and prawns with Miso paste. Not sure how it will taste but I think it should taste good. Didn't plan to add the prawns in but I suddenly remembered we still have a bag of medium-sized prawns in the freezer for more than a month. Will also be cooking fried fish with blended tomato and bombay onions, a steamed tofu and a stir-fried chinese cabbage. Also have my favorite soup, Watercress and loh hon koa for added 'yun'. Thank God I have a maid to help me out in cooking!

Deepavali Cheer

On the eve of Deepavali last week, my Sikh neighbor gave me a pleasant surprise when she presented me with a basket of food. I was hoping that there were her delicious curry and tosei inside the basket but instead, there were 3 jars of Muruku, bee hives and London Almond cookies together with some peaches and fragrant pears. Anyway, this time I managed to subtly tell her that I love the smell of her curries and hinted to get some of her homecooked curries soon. She was so proud to hear that compliment and said she will definitely give me some the next time she cooks them. See how greedy and desperate I am, even had the cheek to tell somebody to give me her curry!
