The Big Day Has Arrived!

In slightly more than 12 hours, I will get to meet my angel. Time really flies. I am really anxious, scared, excited and nervous. I've not been sleeping well for the past 2 nights and it's worse tonight. I am so anxious that even at 12:30am now, I don't feel a tad sleepy.

I still remember vividly the day I did a home pregnancy test and almost blacked out when I thought I saw 2 blue lines on the pregnancy kit window. I looked at the kit again and my eyes seemed to be playing tricks with my vision.... it's like now I see the 2 lines, now I only see 1 line and then after moving it back and forth and looking at it at a different angle, I see the 2 lines again. 10 minutes later, I felt I couldn't breath when I read the instructions again which confirmed my suspicion. The 2 blue lines appeared even bluer than ever 15 minutes later. I felt like I have been hit by a trailer on the highway. Anyway, that's history. Today will be the birth of my 3rd angel and I will love her with all my heart and soul. From what I thought that I will never ever be able to hold my own baby 5 years ago, now I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls and another one arriving in just hours away.

Wish me luck for a pain free, fright free and stress free c-section. Most importantly, please pray that my baby will be healthy and wholesome from head to toe, internally and externally and beautiful in every way.

Do wait for my next post on my birth story!

This Doughnut Looks Like A Phone Mummy!

Daddy bought 2 doughnuts from our favorite bakery yesterday. I cut the doughnut into 4 quarters and gave 1 quarter to Alycia and 1 quarter to Sherilyn. As Sherilyn was nibbling on the quarter doughnut, she said "mummy, this doughnut looks like a phone". When we saw it, Alycia, my maid and I burst out laughing. Indeed, the doughnut looked like the telephone receiver. Sher is really imaginative!

And then she said "hello, hello....."

Chocolate Lovers

Daddy is a chocolate lover, so am I but I try hard to stay away from them. Naturally Alycia and Sherilyn also love chocolates, so much that Alycia will secretly eat them during school parties (and then tell me out of guilt when she comes home), as I have told her that she is not allowed to eat chocolates and junk food in school and Sunday school.

I can normally resist eating chocolates, but when it comes to Ferrero Rocher and Almond Gold chocolate bars, I will fall for them and gorge on them.... and then feel guilty after gorging on those sins.

And how can I resist saying no to Alycia when she begs me for one Ferrero.... coz she will give me her sweetest smile and appreciation when she gets that one special treat from mummy.

Alycia, My Ballerina

These pix were taken during last week's ballet class. There was a heavy downpour on that day and the teacher was stuck in a horrendous traffic jam on the highway. Thus, there was no proper class. Instead, a Grade 1 student led the class. Anyway, the class will be replaced.

As you can see, most of the students have long hair, except for Alycia and her little aunty (behind Alycia) who are newbies. The teacher informed us that students should preferably have long hair and fringes as they are required to tie them up into a bun during their exams. While little girls do look more feminine and cuter with long hair, I think it is not quite practical to keep long hair and long fringes as the weather here is just so humid and hot and Alycia sweats a lot. I normally wash her hair twice a day, but with long hair, it's really not practical to have it washed twice a day.

How often do you wash your kids' hair?

Pretty To See, Nice To Eat Too

The Japanese love to package their food and snacks aesthetically. In fact everything about Japanese stuff is beautiful - souvenirs, food, clothes, toys, gadgets, etc. They take such great pains to wrap up their snacks with pretty present papers. My mil who recently went to Japan for a holiday brought home some Japanese cakes - a box of steamed Dorayaki cake (sponge cake) and a box of cheese cake, all individually wrapped. The packaging for both the boxes of cakes came with pretty present papers and the cakes taste good too. Have you tried these cakes before?

Burning Midnight Oil

I'm set to burn the midnight oil for the next 2 days to complete all my outstanding assignments before I go on my long blog break. Feel really tensed as I have to churn out so many posts - both paid posts and personal posts and I have only 2 more days to complete them.

Preparations for the new baby are almost done. Tomorrow, or rather later today (it's past midnight already), I have to dig out the old Mothercare sterilizer, get ready my breast pump, get a tin of newborn baby formula (just in case I have no milk, knock on wood!) and get hubby to jack up the playpen. And I am all ready.... to welcome my angel home.

Pregnancy at Week 37+

I've been having discomforts on my tummy for the last 2 days, discomforts similar to PMS and tightenings. I'm not too worried coz my csection is scheduled for Wednesday next week and should the baby decide to come out earlier, I'll be more than happy. I just can't wait for this baby to pop as I feel so, so uncomfortable now.

Our Saturday

Today I was home with the gals without the maid until the afternoon. My mil had gone to the market with our maid and hub's aunty early in the morning. On their way back, they met with a car accident on Federal Highway. Hub's aunty's car was sandwiched between a long trailer and another car and her car was quite badly wrecked. Thank God, no one was hurt in the accident.

My mil was supposed to bring food back from the market but because of the accident, they had to be at the police station. So I had to keep the laundry, hang the laundry, wash the dishes after breakfast and prepare lunch too, while entertaining my 2 brats. I entertained them with some new washable Crayola magic colors and coloring book. That managed to keep them occupied for 1/2 hour. In between, they were fighting for the tiara headband that Sher was wearing and the tiara broke. All hell broke loose and Sher was wailing away and I had to step in to placate her.

When I was in the toilet, my 2 brats went upstairs and ransacked the cupboard that I keep all their new toys, books, pencils, etc. Alycia now knows how to open the child safety gate at the stairs and whenever she goes up, Sher will follow suit. After ransacking the cupboard, they ransacked the fridge and took cheese out to eat. Then they ransacked the kitchen cabinet to bring out bowls to put their cheese. I could hear the clinking sounds of ceramic and glass plates and I was worried that they might break the plates. I was like a mad woman hollering away in the toilet while I did my poopie business but the 2 'rats' were deaf to my hollering as they were having a whale of a time when the 'cat' was away. I was fuming mad when I came out from the toilet and used the cane to threaten them that should this happen again, they will get whacked.

While I was busy preparing lunch for them in the kitchen, Sherilyn climbed on the door of the wooden TV rack and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang..... thankfully I did not hear cries, phew! I rushed out of the kitchen and saw the door of the TV rack on the floor. The sides were cracked and I stepped on some screws. I did not cane her as I knew she had wanted to get a VCD by stepping on the TV rack door to reach the rack but her body weight gave way. Sher was obviously very scared that she would get the cane but I just frightened her a little and told her that she will get spanking from daddy when he's home. Of course when daddy was home, he did not spank her!

The ruined wooden TV rack with the door yanked out. Looks like we have to get a new TV rack soon.

What a Saturday for us!

Pretty Pink Suitcase

I realized that two of the wheels of my roller suitcase came off when I was packing my bag to the hospital last week. Now, I have to use a travel bag without any rollers which was a free gift to bring to the hospital. I hate luggage that has no handle or rollers and I want to get one which is small and compact and suitable for a night or two out like this pretty pink Zero Halliburton suitcase. It’s ain’t very costly and I get a huge discount if I purchase it from luggagesource.com.

Alycia's New Disney School Bag

Koo Mah from Hong Kong sent this Disney bag over to Alycia just at the right time coz her pink Minnie Mouse bag was torn last week. This bag suits Alycia coz her pre-school has so many books and so much homework to bring home. It's quite a pity that a 4-year old like Alycia has to carry such a heavy bag to school everyday. I can't imagine how big and heavy her school bag will be when she goes to a Chinese primary school in 2 years' time. I think I will need to get her a trolley-bag with rollers then.

Free Educational Gifts

Ever since my kids, especially Sherilyn suffered from bad constipation as a result of drinking the Enfa range of formula milk, I have switched both my girls to Dutch Lady. I have tried many brands but they only have a liking for Dutch Lady.... and it's quite a cheap formula milk! During the day, Sherilyn will be on Dutch Lady and night time, I'll feed her Enfagrow A+ with fibre. Alycia is on Dutch Lady 456 thrice a day. I tried feeding her with Enfakid but she hated the taste.

Dutch Lady often comes up with great free gifts for purchases of their formula milk. The latest range of free gifts are :

Disney activity books (which my girls love)

and magnetic spelling puzzles.

Unlike Mead Johnson where we have to collect the tin foils / bar codes to redeem the gifts, Dutch Lady gives out these educational stuff free.

Flower Pasta

While Alycia is a classic 'fan toong' (one who loves eating rice), Sherilyn does not fancy rice but loves noodles and pastas. Alycia's eyes will lit up when she sees rice, meat, eggs and vegetables on the dining table while Sherilyn will put on a 'foo kwah meen' (bitter gourd face and sulky look). So to please both gals, I normally cook rice for Alycia and noodles or pasta or simply sandwiches for Sherilyn.

This is what I cooked for Sherilyn yesterday - Organic mini flower pasta with organic 'yau mark tarm' vege and stir-fried fish paste with garlic, onions and MSG-free oyster sauce. She loved it and licked the bowl clean!

Can You Eat Eggs And Ginger If You Have A C-Section

I was told by friends that I should avoid eating eggs, 'sang yue' (ikan haruan) and ginger for the first 2 weeks post-delivery if I have gone through a c-section delivery. Reason? These food will cause the wound to get infected and turn ugly. Eggs and fish are high in protein. Protein will heal the wound and make the flesh grow rapidly, thus causing the flesh in the wound to overlap. The Chinese also believe that the ginger will cause the wound to turn ugly and I don't know the reason behind it. I did not believe in this myth and I ate an egg a day and lots of ginger throughout my confinement. Thank God, my wound healed without getting infected and it did not turn ugly too.

Have you heard of this myth? For those of you who had gone through c-section deliveries, did you refrain yourself from eating eggs, sang yue and ginger for the first 2 weeks of your confinement?

Sushi Cake

The Sushi is so popular that creative bakers have even come up with sushi sandwishes and sushi cakes. We saw this at our favorite RT bakery last week and hubby who likes trying new products bought a pack to try. It's made of sponge cake rolled up with tuna fish, cucumber and raw carrots in the middle and seedweed on the outer layer.
My verdict? I won't want to buy it again. Looks fanciful but kind of tasted wierd. I still prefer a plain cake... a good old butter cake or chiffon cake.

Busy Week

These few days I will be super busy rushing off all my outstanding assignments before I take a long blog break next week. But I think most likely I won't be able to resist turning on my computer to check my emails and to start blogging again the same day I am discharged from the hospital, knowing my stubborn self! I am just not the type who can sleep or lay on my bed doing nothing the whole day.

My Little Miss Vain Pot

We were at the Japanese Restaurant @ PJ Hilton last week to celebrate my birthday. As we were going into the restaurant, Alycia stopped me and said "mummy, take my picture here". Gosh, isn't she vain and she's only 4 years old? Well, can't blame her coz mummy is just as vain!

Former Maid’s Boyfriend

I still bump into my former maid’s boyfriend, on most mornings when I bring Sherilyn out to buy the newspapers. He knows who I am and he knows that I know him too. It feels awkward bumping into him coz it was because of him that hubby and I went through a hard time dealing with our maid who was head over heels over him. One time, the guards patrolling our neighborhood almost beat him up when he was caught trying to climb up our gate into our house to meet my maid. I just hope he won’t try to lure my current maid now and cause us the same havoc.

Not So Healthy Food

When it comes to eating sausages, fish balls and roast Terriyaki chicken, I have absolutely no problems feeding Sherilyn. She sits on her chair and happily eats her bowl of rice with these not-so-healthy stuff.

Roast Terriyaki chicken

Sausages and fishballs on skewers with Terriyaki sauce.

This is considered a feast for Alycia and Sherilyn....having a meal with very tasty, sweet and salty sausages, fishballs and chicken. I don't need to coerce, threaten and bribe Sherilyn to make her swallow her food. I don't encourage buying these stuff actually but daddy who is not as health conscious as me loves to buy these for the gals whenever we shop at Jaya Jusco. What to do, that's his way of expressing his love to the gals, through food.

Pregnancy Tumor

That's the term given to the cyst that grew on my gums when I was pregnant with Alycia. The cyst or rather the overgrowth of the gums (between the teeth) was so huge that the dental surgeon and the Periodontist (gums specialist) told me they have never seen anything so huge before. Thank God, the cyst went away after I delivered Alycia. Now, the cyst is growing again, at the exact same spot that I had it 4.5 years ago. Luckily it did not grow much earlier. When I was carrying Alycia, the cyst grew during the initial stages of my pregnancy and bled so much. Well, I only have 1 more week to suffer and hopefully by then, the cyst would have subsided too.
