Eating Clean

Do you realize that as we age, we become more mindful about what we put into our mouths? I am not sure about you but it sure is the case for me as I age.

When I was a young girl, I couldn't be bothered with what went into my body. I was addicted to chocolates, candies, white flour products, chips, packet snacks, ham, sausages, bacon, burgers, fast food, deep fried food and fizzy drinks.   I hated to drink plain water and being a kid, I didn't know the dangers of stuffing my body with junk. In those days in the 1970s through 1990s, no one was really bothered. Cancer was hardly heard of. People just had fewer diseases. My brothers and I played outdoors a lot, every single day.

When I was a young working adult, I was still not concerned about eating clean. Well, I was not aware yet of the importance of eating clean. I had an endless stash of junk food in my office drawer. I was the junk food 'supplier' to my beloved colleagues.  I had candies, sweets, biscuits, chips and a whole load of rubbish in the drawer, perpetually. Gawd, why did I even do that?  It would take years to get rid of  the remnants of these junk and gunk from my body. I am glad that I have found Izumio to help  zap away all the toxins and free radicals from my system.

It was only when I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) in late 2000 which caused me unexplainable weight gain, acne and the most significant of all, infertility, that my whole life made an about turn, for the better. It was only then that I did a lot of research on PCOS. What I gathered from the internet propelled me to make a 360 degree change in my lifestyle. I incorporated exercise in my daily life and went on a low-carb diet. Junk food was almost totally eliminated from my life.

Now that I am in my 40s and have genetic high cholesterol, I made a decision to be a flexitarian, i.e. my diet is mostly vegetarian and I eat very little meat. I try to eat clean on most days but there will be cheat days where I allow myself to indulge in my favorite sinful food, moderately.

Thankfully I have a very health conscious MIL who stays with us. She whips up only healthy food, consisting mainly of vegetables.

Below is one of our regular dinners at home, with vegetables-centered dishes.

Braised organic Japanese pumpkin with chicken slices, blanched lady fingers, French bean omelette and steamed fish with ginger, soy sauce and fried garlic.

All these are simple dishes yet I thoroughly enjoy them. We hardly have deep fried food and keep processed food to the minimal in our larder :)

Dreaming Of A Pet Dog

A new pet shop has just opened its doors at our neighborhood, right next to the music center that Cass goes to.  I didn't even notice the pet shop until Cass shouted out excitedly to me that she saw our favorite dog, a Siberian Husky puppy in the pet shop!

We were so excited! After piano lesson on Saturday, we checked out the puppies at the pet shop. Each and every puppy costs a whopping RM6,800!!!

Our favorites were the Husky and a Hush Puppy. IF ONLY we have a plot of land next to our house and IF ONLY we had the moolah, I am so going to get us a puppy!  A Golden Retriever, Labrador, Husky or a Beagle. We once had a Beagle named Happy but had to give it up for adoption when we could not find the time to shower it with the love and care it needed.  Alycia and Sherilyn were both under 2 years old then.

One day, just one day, we'll own a dog. Cass has always promised me that when she grows up and gets a job, she'll buy me a bungalow and get us a dog! LOL!  Let's see if her wish will materialize.

Sunday Lazy Meals - 13 March 2016

When I was recovering from Influenza last weekend, I had  zilch appetite.  I was actually getting better last Saturday but after tucking into some rich, heaty and oily Italian food at a Lego launch where bloggers were invited, I got home feeling a hundred times worse.   I felt like the cactus in my throat had grown a million times thornier after the event. I felt really sick. I did not feel like talking that evening coz I yakked a lot at the event and I partially lost my voice after the event.

After downing many packets of Izumio and popping over 6 Super Lutein on Saturday, I felt much better on Sunday. The headache, eye ball ache and body ache were gone.  But I still did not feel like eating anything. I still did not feel like myself yet.  And the sweltering El Nino heat made things worse.

I only felt like eating cold semi-sold food. So I kept whacking my favorite skinny sugar-free yoghurt and Haagen Dazs ice-cream!

Drama Queen made some toasties with Food For Friends cheddar cheese and avocado and I had half a slice.

Lunch was at our favorite friendly neighborhood restaurant. I told the lady boss what I wanted and she whipped up my favorite fish slice vermicelli with spinach with reduced salt and oil.  That bowl of noodles was such a comfort!

After lunch, the foodie hubs dragged us to LDG Cafe.  While he enjoyed his cuppa latte, we enjoyed some desserts -- Creme Brulee...

and some French chocolate dessert.

After clocking in 9 hours of sleep per night for 5 nights straight, I am finally myself again.  Sleep is one of the most important ingredients for our body to recover, without which, it will take a long time to heal.  Of course, you need good nutrition and a good supplement for your body to function optimally.  I am glad that I have my Izumio and Super Lutein to give me the peace of mind in good and bad times :)

Heavy Rain Finally!!

We got a much much needed respite from the scorching El-Nino heat today, thank you God!!

It finally poured heavily today, for a good 2 hours.

After dinner today, I brought the girls down for some much-needed exercise.  We jogged at the jogging tracks, Cass played on her scooter and later I played badminton with Alycia.

From 37 degrees C to 27 degrees C, the vast temperature drop has been a real blessing to us KL folks.
Here's praying to more daily thunderstorms to fill up the dams and to avert another water rationing!

Hot Hot Day!

Today has been another super super hot and humid day.

After checking on Cass in school, I went to the coffee shop to get some lunch. Though the walk from my car to the coffee shop was a mere 1 minute, by the time I reached home, I was already sweating profusely.

So off I went to the bathroom for a quick 1-minute shower.  I already had a full shower from head to toe at 8am after swimming today.  My next 1-minute shower was in the afternoon, after being air-fried by the hot air while waiting for Cass and Sherilyn at the lobby for 15 minutes.

Yesterday, I had 5 showers - 2 full showers from head to toe and 3 quickies lasting only a minute each time - just a splash of cold water to wash away the sweat and to cool myself up.

The picture below was taken along my way to the lobby to wait for Cass and Sherilyn at 2ish pm.  Today's temp. is a burning 38 degrees Celsius! No wonder I felt feverish.

Image may contain: pool and text

For those of you who are under layers of thick clothing in temps below 0 degrees Celsius, don't you just wish you were here melting away?  I sure wish I could swap places with you and be freezing under layers of clothing. I don't like being roasted.

UPSR Cash Reward For The Big Girl

I didn't know that the girls' school (primary) has a cash reward scheme in place for UPSR candidates who score 5As, 6As and 7As in the exam.  That's the problem with the big girl, who is an introvert. She does not share much  happenings with me.  Often times, I need to bribe her with goodies to make her spill.   Most of the time, I get the news from Sherilyn and Cass who yak  non-stop, ever so generous with their information with me.  Sometimes they blather too much and this can be quite annoying, on days when my mind is stressed out with problems and work.

I only found out from Alycia early last week that she needed to make a trip to her primary school on Saturday for a cash reward and certificate giving ceremony.

And her reward for scoring 5As is RM80 cash and a certificate :)  Not bad at all eh?

Here's more peeking into the shopping habits of a health freak mommy :D

Below - shopping cart on 29 February 2016

Contents: 1 bottle organic apple cider vinegar, 1 jar Korean kimchi, bread, 3 packets Australian carrots, tomatoes, 1 punnet organic French beans, 1 packet four angle beans, 1 packet coriander, 1 packet spring onions, 2 punnets organic cherry tomatoes and 1 crate antibiotic-free chicken eggs.
Damage = about RM70

Below - cart on 3 March 2016

Image may contain: food

1 packet organic unbleached flour, 1 box organic soy beans, 1 packet organic psyllium husk, 1 box organic peppermint green tea, 1 bottle Japanese Sumiyaki instant coffee and 1 bunch banana.

All these could have been way cheaper had I bought regular non-organic ones. But pesticides and GMO keep preying my mind and I am just one paranoid mommy! For this, I am paying through my nose each time just to stay sane and hopefully healthier :)

Throwback Home-Cooked Dinner

Throwback home-cooked dinner pix...

Double-boiled kombu seaweed soup with lean pork. This soup is mild in taste, yet bursting with nutrients.

Kombu is a nutritional powerhouse from the sea.  It is a kind of sea cabbage.  Even the texture is similar to cabbage.

Kombu is known for reducing blood cholesterol and hypertension. It is high in iodine, which is essential for thyroid functioning; iron, which helps carry oxygen to the cells; calcium, which builds bones and teeth; as well as vitamins A and C, which support eyes and immunity, respectively.

Kombu is  one of the Japan’s best kept secrets. Generations of Japanese have added kombu to their foods for improved flavor and nutrition. Adding kombu to your broth can help to improve your health and decrease your chances of cancer, diabetes, thyroid problems, anemia, and mineral deficiencies.

Getting Guidance and Support During Your Home Remodeling Projects

Making the decision to place your trust in a home remodeling contractor can be overwhelming. You realize that you cannot take on the work by yourself; however, you still want to know that the person or crew that you hire can be trusted and also has the skill needed to get the job done right. Because you want to allay your fears before the work actually begins, you can get the insight you need to be at ease during the project by reaching out for support from the contracting company. You can use the numbers found on the website to get information like leads for general contractors and referrals from people who have hired these workers in the past.

Sales and Support for the Remodeling
Vetting bids and deciding on what contractors to hire can be complex if you have never undertaken this process before now. You may be uncertain about how to turn down certain contractors and let others know that you have accepted their bids. You can get the guidance you need by using the sales and support number found on the website. The people who staff this number can walk you through the process of vetting and retaining remodeling services for your home. If you change your mind or want to vet additional bids for the job, you can also use this number to make your wishes known. The website acts as a middle man of sorts between you and the contractors for hire in your area. You can allow the site and its staff to convey messages to the contractors bidding to work for you today.

Other Sources of Help
If you are not available for phone calls throughout the day, you may wish to restrict your communications to emails. Using the online form, you can message the company and let the site know that it can also email you in return. The form is easy to fill out and is received instantly by the company.

You can also use the form to get free quotes from area contractors. The form does not cost anything to fill out and submit. You can be called or emailed the quotes, depending on what form of communication method you indicate on the form.

Choosing a contractor to hire can be a complex undertaking. You can simplify it and get help by using the online contact numbers.

Shopping Cart @ 25 February 2016

My shopping cart on 25 February 2016...

No automatic alt text available.

Contents: 7 ruby grapefruits, 5 jumbo Sunkist navel oranges, 1 medium-size papaya, 3 packets of barley pearls, 1 tub of sugar-free Skinny yoghurt, 1 tub of raw walnuts, 1 tub of mixed raw nuts, 1 crate of antibiotic-free eggs, 1 packet of Korean seaweed and 1 bottle of Nature's Gate body shampoo (no SLS, no Paraben and no nonsense it seems).

Though there are only 12 items in my cart yesterday, the damage was a 3-figure amount!  See how our ShRinggit has shrunk!!   Darn our lame exchange rate and GST!

Even my favorite bitter gourd pork noodles stall uncle has increased his price by RM1 a bowl just before CNY!

That's it. There will be NO SHOPPING for groceries and no take-out for lunch today!  I'll just finish off the baby greens salad in the fridge for lunch and the mil is now cooking a simple lunch for the girls now.

Can you guess the amount on the receipt for this shopping cart?

Earning Passive Income From Naturally Plus

This morning I saw another surprise in my bank account.  An amount of RM455 has been banked into my account from Naturally Plus. I am chuffed! :) :)    This is my weekly 'income'.  On some weeks I get more, sometimes a little less. But I am already very thankful for this passive income, given that I have put in very little effort. I am in nature pretty laid back.  I prefer to do less stressful things but truth is, I do not put pressure on myself to excel in this Naturally Plus business. I am working at my own pace, which compared to my other team members, is considered at snail's pace.

After consuming Izumio and Super Lutein for 11 months with no intention to delve in the business initially, I am glad to say that I am now consuming the products for free!

I am now earning a monthly minimum of RM2,000 on average, which is sufficient to cover the monthly cost of my consumption of Izumio and Super Lutein for our 3 girls and myself.  My goal is to  reach Excellence status, which would guarantee me an income of RM10,000 a month but to reach this status, I will have to fire on all cylinders.  To be honest, I am not confident if I can reach that far by this year. It's A-OK if I don't.  I will take my own time and will not put too much pressure on myself.   My upline's motto is RSS - Rest, Sit Back and Smile and that's what I am doing now :)   I am confident that I will soon reach this status, maybe by mid or end of next year or perhaps in 2 years. That's fine by me.

Below is a print screen of my Naturally Plus earnings from 4 December 2015 through 5 February 2016 (2 months).

No automatic alt text available.

My immediate goal is to see continued healing in Cass' incontinence issues and my own health issues. I am already very thankful that Izumio is bringing Cass on her road to recovery. It may take longer for her to be 100% healed as she has an abnormal urinary tract but with continued consumption of Izumio and lots of prayers, nothing is impossible. I am confident of that.

For myself, the fact that my cholesterol reading has gone down from 6.4 (reading in June 2015) to 5.8 (reading in February 2016) despite having genetic high cholesterol and without taking medications is already a proof that Izumio and Super Lutein are working. Do note that I have all the while been taking only a maintenance dosage as I could not afford high dosage. Now that I am already consuming for free, I have started to increase my dosage. I can't wait to do my next cholesterol blood test to see if the reading has gone down further :)

If this 'package' sounds interesting to you and you'd like to know more on how you can consume these high quality supplements and earn a passive income simultaneously, do drop me an email at shireenyong@gmail.com.

A Flexitarian's Lunch - 23 February 2016

Did I tell you that I am slowly transforming into a flexitarian?

These days, I eat very little meat and eggs, both to bring down my cholesterol reading as well as to reduce my carbon foot print.

If you read my other blog too, you would have read that I have genetic high cholesterol, a condition where even with strict diet and exercise, it would be hard to bring down one's cholesterol reading.

How sad, huh?

Fortunately, I am not one who lives to eat. I am pretty simple and don't have extravagant taste or crave for rich food.

When live throws lemons at me, I make the tastiest lemonade :D

These days, my meals consists of 80% veggies, whole grains, nuts and seeds.  I try to eat raw greens for lunch while my dinner would consist mainly of a bowl of soup with organic oats and lots of greens.

This is my lunch today...

Image may contain: food

Raw baby greens salad with organic cherry tomatoes, toasted pumpkin seeds, raw walnuts, Japanese seaweed seasoning, coarse black pepper and a salad dressing composed of organic apple cider vinegar + maple syrup (low GI) +  dash of naturally brewed soy sauce + toasted sesame seeds and 4 slices of super skinny char siew .... washed down with a glass of  cooling barley + screwpine leaves water.

Handy Girl

Here's the drama queen in action - to help me set up a clothes rack that I have just bought.

No automatic alt text available.

She's pretty good with art, craft work, cooking and sewing. Well, anything that has got to do with her dexterity.  It also helps that students these days are taught Living Skills in school, a subject that was not yet introduced during my time.

In under 20 minutes, she managed to erect the clothes rack. I know I will probably need several hours to do this, or probably I would have given up half way through with a sore finger or two coupled with tons of grouses. Fixing things is just not my cuppa. I have no interest or patience for it. This is the hubby's department in the household. Now, I don't have to wait for him to come back to help me. I have my street smart handy girl to help me out!

Shopping Cart Today - 18 February 2016

I love shopping for groceries.  There's a new and upscale supermarket at my neighborhood that carries a complete range of groceries, fresh produce and imported stuff.  I go there every morning! Well, maybe just every other day or perhaps  5 times a week... to shop and destress :D

I like the atmosphere at this supermarket and the range of food stuff it offers, which is not good for our wallets! Each trip would cost us between RM50 - RM100.  Go grab your calculator and add up how much we spend on average each week :D

This is my shopping cart for today...

Image may contain: indoor

As you can see, the items in the shopping cart reflect the personality of the shopper. Every item is healthy. No junk or canned food and trying hard to refrain from buying highly processed food stuff. I strongly believe in the adage of "YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT". So  spending a little more on healthy foods is a good investment.

Today's damage was RM70+ and that's for organic sprouts (that's my lunch for 2 days), organic cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, organic long beans, 10 oranges, 6 packets of barley pearls, antibiotic-free and growth hormone-free chicken eggs and skim milk.  All these perishables will probably last us for 2 - 3 days.

How much do you spend on your groceries a week?

Pro At Solving The Rubik's Cube

Cass is now a pro at solving the Rubik's cube. All she needs is under 5 minutes to solve one side of the cube.  I noticed that she has good concentration power and good amount of patience to solve puzzles ever since she was 3 years old when she was a jigsaw puzzle whiz. Now, she's shifted her focus from jigsaw puzzles to Rubik's cube!

Alycia shares her Rubik's cube with Cass and they bring the cube along with them whenever we are out to keep themselves busy when we adults partake in boring stuff like shopping or chit chatting with friends ;)

Image may contain: 3 people, indoor

Cass also has the patience to obligingly help out in the kitchen whenever her help is needed. When we were back in Ipoh for CNY recently, she helped to remove the skin of a big bowl of peanuts.  She quietly sat at the kitchen for a whole 45 minutes without muttering a word of complaint. She beats me to it in terms of patience. That's my girl. Good job baby girl!

Eve Of CNY 2016 - 7 February 2016

On the eve of the Eve of CNY 2016,  the hubby made a trip to Parkson Pavillion after weeks of being badgered by his darling princess for Shopkins.

Shopkins is only available at  selected Parkson outlets. I had to message Parkson on Facebook to find out which outlet carries this toy.  The hubby finally had the time on Saturday  to swing by Parkson for his princess to claim her reward.

The princess was really nervous when we stepped onto the 6th floor, where the toy department is located. She  was tensed, as a result of feeling worried that she could not find her much awaited toy.  When she finally spotted Shopkins, she gasped in disbelief, like a girl finally meeting her online lover in person for the very first time! HAHAHA!!

Image may contain: 1 person

She had a tough time choosing the characters as each  and every one is unique. With my help, she chose a pack of 12 characters from Season 3.

"Mummy, I am going to faint. I am going to die!! I have to breathe in and out!!  I can't believe I finally found Shopkins!"  These were the words repeatedly chanted by this drama queen. Now, I am certain that she is definitely more melodramatic than her second sister!  She would make a really good nominee for best theatrical performance award in future!

No automatic alt text available.

Young and older kids go gaga over Shopkins, just like how people, young and old, would, over Hello Kitty and Snoopy. These collectibles are cute and tiny and not cheap either.  The pack of 12 characters that we got for Cass cost us RM49.90.

Finally, a very, very happy girl! :)

Staying Hydrated and Healthy This CNY With Izumio

Chinese New Year is just 2 days away.  It seems like it was only recently that we celebrated CNY and here we are at it again. Time really flies!

CNY is the time when everyone seems to have forgotten about their health and exercise regimen and diet plans are thrown out of the window. But not for me. I am still pretty disciplined. I eat everything but in really small portions. But I still say NO to deep fried food.

CNY is also the hottest time of the year.  With a brutal hot weather, sinful indulgence in deep fried snacks, cookies, meat jerky, meat heavy meals and late nights, it is also the time when many will fall sick.  The most common ailments are sore throat with phlegm and cough. And I do hate cough coz once you get it, it would take months to be completely healed.  Thank God that ever since we consumed Izumio and Super Lutein, along with a healthy diet, my girls and I had not gotten a bad cough. Even when we had a cough, it was always a mild one and took only a couple of weeks to be completely settled.

So I got ready my supply of Izumio to help everyone overcome heatiness.  Izumio also helps to wash away all the nasties that we eat during this celebration.

Cass was of great help to me again when my stock came 2 days ago. She helped me to carry the heavy boxes of Izumio  and arranged them neatly inside the store room.

No automatic alt text available.

Thanks to Izumio, Cass is very well on her way to healing from incontinence.   Our immune system is stronger and I have  a peace of mind knowing that Izumio will take care of my health and that of my girls'.

If you need a box or two of Izumio to safeguard your health this CNY, do drop me an email at shireenyong@gmail.com or Whatsapp me at 019 266 4290.

Izumio And Super Lutein - Testimonial On Scalp Psoriasis

Here's a testimony by one of my friend's customers on how Izumio and Super Lutein have helped to treat her Scalp Psoriasis

"I have had psoriasis since a teenager. Topical cream with steroids have been part of my treatment plan. Though it heals for a while, but my psoriasis still comes back. And then, I found out that taking too often has side effects to the body. So I tried other non-steroid treatment, but didn't actually work that great.

Thanks to Izumio and S.Lutein, my psoriasis is under restraint. Initially, I wanted to try these two to boost my immune system. I was hospitalized approximately 8 months ago due to viral pneumonia and a few months after that I had acute bronchitis. I had a sore throat about every month. I've attempted so many options and finally someone introduced Izumio and S.Lutein to me so I gave it a try because I really need something that genuinely works to boost up my immune system. I reckon these two products really works. Last month was durian season, was so afraid of having a sore throat once more, so I immediately drank izumio. Same goes to my kids. Once I see that they have symptoms of falling sick...I'll immediately give them a packet of  Izumio. They are always fine the next day"

All the above credit cards are accepted for 6 or 12 months interest-free instalments.

Cassandra's Latest Craze

Cass' latest craze is some kiddos' cutesy toys called Shopkins.

Shopkins are a range of 148 grocery store-themed characters for kids to collect, share, and trade. Shopkins come packaged with a shopping bag and a hand basket, which can be used to tote around lots of Shopkins friends.

Beatrice Lindsay, 6, loves her collection of Shopkins because they are so cute. "They’re funny and they’re lots of fun,” she says.

Some time in August 2015, Shopkins were the latest toy craze to capture Canadian kids. These tiny toys are as hot as Pokemon once was. Girls (and even boys) enjoy collecting them, organizing them and using the supplied checklist to keep track of their collection. This collectability is part of what makes Shopkins such a hot item. There are hundreds of characters available, with different levels of rarity.

I have no frigging idea why Cass, who has never liked soft toys or dolls would like Shopkins. As a baby, she liked 'challenging' toys like stacking cups or slotting shapes into a shape sorter. As a toddler, she only liked jigsaw puzzles and playing with real kitchen utensils.  Dolls and soft toys given to her as presents were all given away.   I hardly ever bought her toys when she was younger. She hardly ever bugged me for toys too, except for Rainbow Loom 2 years ago and play dough recently.

For the past 2 weeks, Cass has been bugging me to buy her Shopkins.  I caved in and set a few conditions, which she met.   But I didn't know where to buy Shopkins. I searched Toys R Us online but they did not carry Shopkins. Cass then bugged her daddy to help her buy these toys online from overseas. I think it would be absolutely crazy to pay so much for international shipping to ship these toys over. The shipping may cost more than the toy itself.

Then yesterday, the girls' friend in school Whatsapp-ed a picture of Shopkins to Alycia.  The friend saw Shopkins at Parkson @ Sg Wang Plaza.  Cass was happy beyond words.  From that moment, she has been using her magical charm on her daddy. She has been talking to her daddy using her cutest charming voice and giving her daddy lots of hugs to charm him.

And daddy was entranced!

This morning, he took pictures of Shopkins with his phone as reference for him to shop for the toy.  But he will first try checking out the wholesale toy shop at China Town and if  that fails, he will then have to make a trip to Parkson.

Since this morning, Cass has been sending umpteen Whatsapp messages to daddy to remind him to shop for Shopkins :D

Maybe I should also do a 'Cass' Charm' to beguile the hubs for some bling bling diamonds and Chanel bags ;)

A swap held at Vaughan Mills in June saw a turnout of hundreds.
