Stir-fried leek with siew yoke is one of our family favourites, and one of my 83-yo Hakka Dad’s signature dishes. ❤️
It’s a popular Hakka dish and a common sight on the dining table during CNY because leeks have an auspicious meaning. It’s also a pretty delicious way to “recycle” leftover roast pork.
Simple, inexpensive, fuss-free… and SO yummy! 😋
While Dad is busy being the Head Chef, my JD in this house is to clean up after him — the kitchen floor, counters, stove and, of course, some of the dirty dishes.
But here’s the funny part…
Dad doesn’t even allow Mum and me to wash the dishes! Apparently, we’re all doing it “the wrong way.”
So I’ve had to master the art of quietly washing the dishes whenever Dad isn’t looking. 🙈
Because in Dad’s kitchen, apparently even washing dishes (and throwing rubbish) requires the correct SOP. 🤣
