One of my favourite desserts these days is dried jumbo figs.
Back in KL, I used to love having häagen-dazs ice cream, cakes and cookies for dessert. The girls' dad loved buying these sweet treats, and of course, the girls loved them too. Actually, I could quite easily live without these sinful desserts, but when temptation is sitting right in front of you, especially when one of your daughters is happily tucking into it, you feel kiasu not to have some yourself! Before you know it, you're digging right in too.But things are quite different now. Living with my folks, who are both in their 80s, means there are hardly any ice creams, cakes or cookies around the house. They don't really eat these things, so I naturally stopped buying them too.
These days, whenever I crave something sweet, I'll reach for one dried figs or dried prunes instead. They satisfy my sweet tooth without having to indulge in cakes and cookies.
Dried figs are naturally sweet and contain dietary fibre, as well as vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and vitamin K. Their fibre content supports digestion and helps slow down the absorption of sugar.
I got these jumbo figs from Shopee. They're soft, plump and really nice to eat!
