My Parents' 56th Wedding Anniversary

We celebrated Mum and Dad's 56th wedding anniversary yesterday. They tied the knot on Deepavali day 56 years ago.

My younger brother made a trip back to Ipoh for the celebration. He always makes an effort to come home for birthdays, Parents' Day and anniversaries, despite having a busy schedule filled with work and non-stop travelling. It's lovely that he makes family celebrations a priority.

Mum spent several days preparing and baking a Black Forest cake, which tasted just like those you'd find in a café. It's quite a complicated cake to make, but Mum somehow enjoys taking on baking challenges like this. I guess she has something in common with my second daughter, who also loves a good challenge!

For dinner, we had an Eat-All-You-Can buffet at Exquisite Seafood Restaurant. Mum also invited one of her former students to join us. Mum was only 18 when she taught this student, who was 10 at the time. More than six decades later, they are still in touch! Isn't that amazing? It must be quite something to maintain a teacher-student friendship for so many years.

Every dish we ordered was delicious, and my personal favourite was the super crispy deep-fried fish skin with salted egg yolk. Although it was an unlimited-order buffet, we didn't go overboard because the portions were really generous. In fact, we only ordered one round. We were mindful not to order more than we could finish, as there would be a penalty for food wastage. So we ordered just enough to satisfy our tummies.

56 years of marriage! That's more than five decades of sharing life's sweet and bitter moments, weathering ups and downs, and growing old together. Not every couple gets the opportunity to celebrate such a wonderful milestone.

Wishing Mum and Dad many more happy, healthy and blissful anniversaries together. ❤️
