A Phone Call From Alycia's School Principal

My heart skipped a beat or two last week when I received a call from Alycia's pre-school principal. She has never called me when Alycia is in school. Well, any call from the school during school hours is not a good thing right? When my maid told me "mam, ada talipon dari sekolah Alycia", I felt this sudden pang right in the middle of my tummy and I think the color of my face must have turned pale white. "Oh shit" I thought, I hope Alycia has not hurt herself. Thank God Alycia didn't hurt herself. The principal just wanted to confirm with me that Alycia is participating in a school concert in October as we have to pay RM100 for the costume and booking of the hall. Phew..... really gave me a scare. I've already confirmed Alycia's participation in the message book, yet she called me, silly principal. And oh yes, Alycia did hurt herself on that day. She fell and grazed her elbow during PE but thankfully it wasn't serious and she didn't cry. Boy, I just hope I will never receive any more calls from the school in future.

What's Inside Their School Bags

When Alycia first started attending pre-school early last year, she was very reserved and did not talk much in school. She was such an anti-social and refused to talk that I thought she was suffering from selective mutism. She did not quite like going to school and had nervous symptoms like vomitting in the morning. After a few months, she made some friends and now, she's very sociable and chatty in school and likes going to school.

Now, Alycia even brings stickers to school to exchange with her friends. When I checked her school bag last week, I was surprised to see all sorts of things from home in her bag from stickers to balloons, coloring books, sticker books, toys, cards, notebooks and much more.

These things were recovered from Alycia's school bag and I removed them before she went to school last week.

Sherilyn the rubber stamp of Alycia also followed suit and I recovered some stickers, balloons, Lego blocks and even Baby C's teething rings from the bag. No wonder I could not find the teething rings for 2 days! There was even a Guardian Pharmacy flyer in the bag, which I threw away immediately *slaps forehead*

Do your kids bring these stuff to school too?

Psyllium Husk

Ever since I started consuming Psyllium Husk, I never suffered from constipation and piles anymore. My piles was pretty bad during all 3 of my pregnancies and got worst after delivery of my babies. Thankfully with Psyllium Husk, I no longer bleed when I do my poopie business now. Read more here.

Alycia Can Read Her Peter And Jane Books!

I just have to put this on record before it slips my mind again. Since yesterday, Alycia has been reading.... reading on her own that is and she's reading the Ladybird Peter and Jane series. She managed to read the entire 1A book yesterday and today.

Today, I took out the Peter and Jane 1B book and she could also read most pages in the book. This time, my mum and I were convinced that she read it through recognition of words and not through memorization. I am just so happy and proud of her achievement.

Can you believe that this book is over 30 years old? It once belonged to Raymond, my elder brother, than me and then my younger brother Roy. Now, my gals are reading it. Awesome!

Never mind about the yellow stains, the book is still in pretty good shape!

Pureen Chewable Milk Colustrum Tablets

I bought a bottle of Pureen chewable milk Colostrum tabs for Alycia and Sherilyn last week. It comes in mixed fruits flavor. While Sherilyn loved it, Alycia who is very sensitive to the taste of meds and vitamins hated it and spat the tab out. The second time she ate it, she almost puked. I had a hard time convincing her that the tabs are good for her and had to use treats to bribe her to chew the tabs. After a few days, she finally acquired the taste and now has no problems chewing them.

Colostrum contains four times as much protein as normal cow's milk and is very beneficial for those who are undernourished and need to rebuild their body tissues quickly. This is because in terms of its composition it is almost a perfect food that needs no improving on by mankind.

Other benefits of Colostrum include :

- Helps support body's natural immune system & resistance to infection.
- Helps digestive system to function effectively
- Helps support healthy brain function and retinal development
- Helps in the development of strong bones and teeth

Hopefully the Colostrum supplement, together with Millennium's Cactus juice can strengthen Alycia and Sher's immune system. I am really sick of them falling sick every other month.

Sherilyn Polished Off Baby C's Formula

This can of Enfalac A+ was bought exactly 4 months ago, just before Baby C was born and it was only finished last week. Baby C only drank the formula once or twice a day for the first few days of her life and thereafter, it was mummy's milkie all the way till today. I had kept it for about 2 months, just in case Baby C needed it to supplement her intake of mummy's milkie but thankfully, she never liked it anymore. She does not even want the milk bottle anymore. Now, I have a surplus of 4-ounce Avent milk bottles. I wonder if Baby C would ever want the milk bottle in future, when she's weaned off my boops.

Instead of discarding the formula, I discreetly put it into Sherilyn's milk bottle. Since the taste of newborn formula taste a tad wierd, I added a teaspoon of Milo Gold to her bottle and she polished off the entire 7 ounces each time I fixed her a bottle. Luckily she did not discover the wierd taste, else I would have to discard the expensive can of baby formula.

Making Soya Bean Milk At Home

Check out my other blog to see how soya bean milk is made using this fantastic soya bean milk maker.

Alycia My Great Helper

Whenever Baby C is not asleep, she always wants to be carried, talked to, sung to and have lots of attention showered on her. If we happen to be having our breakfast, lunch or dinner, I will place her on a mattress on the floor, next to the dining table and give her a rattle or her favorite water-filled frozen teething ring to chew on but that can only keep her occupied for a max of 10- 15 minutes, after which she will whine for attention again. What she wants is a life entertainer and not toys!

Sometimes, Alycia will help distract Baby C by talking to her or playing with her. It really helps that I have someone entertain Baby C while I quickly finish off my meals. Alycia can be really helpful to me sometimes and she feels proud that she can be a great help to mummy.

Mum's The Best

I've not been making my own bread for almost a year, ever since I was pregnant with Baby C till now. I have even almost forgotten that I own a bread-maker! But since mum is here, she helped me bake a loaf of multi-seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and roasted green soya beans) and oats bread today. She also made some soya bean milk today, using a soya bean maker that she gave me. She also cooked a big pot of my favorite dhall curry with loads of dhall beans, vegetables and fish. Tomorrow, she'll cook red beans and green beans 'tong sui'. I hope my mum can come here more often. Oh yes, she even made some red bean jam, green bean jam and pandan kaya. I'll blog about this soon, so watch out for my posts on my mum's homemade jams and homemade soya bean milk soon!

My Maid Drank My Daughter's Milk!

My mum caught my maid drinking Sherilyn's unfinished milk directly from her milk bottle last night. This maid is quite alright in terms of housework but there are still many things that she does that make me feel really uncomfortable and dubious about her character. Now I am beginning to wonder if she's been helping herself to my kids' milk powder coz the milk powder finishes off really fast.

Unable To Upload Pix From Blogger

I wonder what's wrong with Blogger this morning. I just can't upload pix to my post. I kept getting this message :

Baby C Loves Her Frozen Water-Filled Teething Ring

and that's the only toy that can pacify her and occupy her for at least 15 minutes. Whenever I need to have my meals, I will put her on the bouncinet or on the mattress on the floor next to me and give her her 'ice cream' for her to suck. This frozen water-filled teething ring was also the life-saver and managed to distract her from crying during the recent MCUG test at the hospital.

Eeeee...... very cccccolddd......

Chicken Pox Meds

Our doctor prescribed these meds to Sherilyn - Zorax Suspension (to thwart the chicken pox virus from proliferating), an anti-itching syrup and a topical cream to apply on the pox. I did not feed Sher with the anti-itching syrup as the spots didn't cause her any itching. I never knew that there's meds to reduce the severity of CP. When I had CP 15 years ago, I just suffered very badly in bed for a week and only applied calamine lotion to ease the itch.

The Zorax Suspension needed to be taken 4 times a day and there were times when I had forgotten to feed her. Guess who reminded me to feed Sher the meds? Sher's cheh cheh! Alycia is now my very helpful assistant and she can remind me to do things, pacify her baby sister and help me fetch things around the house.

Swimming class

My 2 older girls are all excited that we will be moving to our new condo next month, well hopefully next month. What excites them most is that they will finally be able to swim in the pool everyday. I will need to get them some pool floats and sun tan lotion. I intend to send them for swimming classes but the problem is that the swimming instructor at the condo only conducts his lessons between 3pm – 5pm, the time when it’s the hottest during the day. Well, the majority of his students are Japanese kids who live at the condo and their parents don’t mind them swimming in the scorching sun, crazy! Hopefully this instructor is willing to start an evening class to cater to Malaysian kids who cannot stand the hot sun!

Check this one out. This pool float even comes with an overhead shade!

The TV Is My Best Babysitter

What am I going to do without the tv? It is such a great sitter to my kids. My 2 older girls, especially Sherilyn can never ever sit still for a moment, except when the TV is turned on with her favorite programs. When I need to take my shower or get some work done, I’ll turn to the TV to babysit my kids, including Baby C. I was really amused that even Baby C who is only 3.5 months old loves watching the TV. When the TV is turned on, she does not even want her all-time favorite mummy's teats and her head will be turned towards the TV! But I only limit her viewing time to half an hour a day (only educational programs) and she doesn’t watch the TV everyday. Can you live without the TV?

President Petit Brie Soft Ripened Cheese

Everyone in our family loves cheese. Last week, my mil bought this cheese :

This is the cheese that we normally get to eat from the buffet spread in hotels. It goes very well when eaten with crackers.

Cheese on a slice of multi-grain wholewheat cracker.

Looking at the ingredients, this cheese does not contain coloring, preservative and does not contain as much food additives, sodium and chemical as the regular single sliced cheese like Krafts. I think it is a healthier choice of cheese for kids but the taste is slightly bitter and it has a layer of 'skin' which my Sherilyn does not like. She will ask me to slice off the layer of 'skin' before she pops the cheese into her mouth.

Having Fun Under The Crib

Sometimes, my 2 older girls can be really mischievous and when they are bored, they can find amusing ways to entertain themselves like playing under the crib, of all the places! And yes, I know you must be wondering why there is a crib in our living room?
I still have Sherilyn's old playpen but the board is missing, so we couldn't raise the playpen. Since we have 2 Safe n Sound cribs, we brought one down. Instead of wasting a few hundred bucks on a new playpen, we used Sher's old crib to place Baby C during the day. Afterall, it's only going to be temporary. Very soon, Baby C will be able to stand and we can put her in Sher's playpen.

Cassandra's Meds

These are Baby C's 1 month supply of antibiotics from the hospital. Don't know why this HUKM has to prescribe us with meds that are so tedious to prepare. In the past, I was only prescribed with 1 bottle of antibiotics that can last Baby C 1 month. But for this particular brand and type of antibiotics, each bottle of meds can only last 1 week, after which I will have to discard the remaining meds.

The tedious part is preparing the meds. Notice the 2 lines marked in red on the bottle? First, I have to pour water to the first level marked red. Then I have to stir the powder and have them dissolved, which took me quite some time to stir the powder to dissolve them. Next, I have to pour water again to the next level marked in red..... and I will have to do this every week for God knows how long. The most tedious and challenging part is feeding Baby C the meds. Though I am dead tired at the end of the day, each evening, I have to carry Baby C with one hand and feed her the meds drop by drop with the other hand. I also have to carry her round the house, dance with her, sing to her and find new things each day to distract her so that she will not puke. Please Lord, please heal Cassandra from her Kidney Reflux and spare her from all the pain, trauma and discomfort ASAP.

Sister Love

Priceless moments.....

If only my 3 girls will still be that loving and caring towards each other when they grow up....
